"Bly and the 327th Star Corps" - Test Comic
Before I got right into my 762nd comic, I wanted to make a test comic just to see how it would turn out - and I am very happy with how it came out.
I noticed though when I signed up to CABG that people didn't do proper comics like I was expecting - they do the same as they do on mocpages.com with frames and captions - although you do use word bubbles! While I have no problem with that, (some of you actually do it quite well) I'm not sure how much you will like my way of making comics.
So I've posted this comic to ask what you think of the style, and whether you would like me to continue with this or do my comics as the rest of you have done them.
Keep in mind that I know the landscape (the "ditch") I made for it is terrible, so don't bother pointing that out for me!
Anyway, here's the link to my comic: Bly and the 327th Star Corps (they're very large pages (1300x1800, 1.2-1.8MB per page ) - Remember to use the Previous/Next buttons to go from page to page!

That's kinda nice, although the scene itself could use some work. Next time, just post all the pictures instead of asking us to click click click.

I love the Star Corps troopers and Bly, oh and the comic was good as well, although I agree with DP.

I don't know about you, but I like it the way he did it.
How do you get that burn mark?

Heh, that was pretty good for a humour comic - you don't see many of those around here. It reminded me of the little shorts on LEGO.com that Greg Hyland works on (IIRC), which can only be a good thing.

Nice! Your troops look great. And the effects were mind-blowing. Once again, great job.

Woah! Sial has a real challenger now!
Seriously, you are really good at this! I feel really outclassed now..
What program did you use for the comic book style and the effects?

Never been a truer statement! This here is top-notch material, a real comic . Mine's just frames that tell a story .

Hey, be patient. :( I'll get to you eventually. I'm not always browsing this site.
I used Manga Studio for the frames, word bubbles and all the text I used for the title and to fill the space at the end. The program is actually designed to do manga and manga comics (ie Japanese cartoons) or anything with hand-drawn or outlined images, not comics like this that use real life photos, so I still needed GIMP to edit the photos beforehand to do the effects.
@Uberlag - I was still experimenting at the time with laser bolts, and GIMP in general, but I eventually settled on this:
I select a Rectangle with Feathered selected, copy and paste it, I fill it in with blue or red, then I move and rotate it into a position I want. Then, if the laser bolt is meant to be going in/out of the page, I use Skew to stretch out or shrink one of the ends it create the illusion of the bolt leaving or coming towards you. Then I use the Wand, Feathered selected again, to select the middle of the bolt and fill it in White.
@DarthPineapple - The pictures were way too big for the page - 1350x1900 - I couldn't make the pictures too much smaller either without ;) making the text too hard to read. Anyway, I'll remember that for the future.
@Commando Shade - I did the burn mark in GIMP - I forget about the fact that "Wuno" got shot and would need to have a burn mark, but I noticed there was only one picture that had any view of his front torso!
