D-Day
Exactly 65 years ago the Allies opened the longly-awaited Second Front with the largest invasion force ever. 156.000 (156,000) men assaulted Hitler's Atlantic Wall in Normandy on June 6th 1944. Prior to the landings at Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword paratroopers were deployed at key locations.
Just a small bignette I made, showing 2 paratroopers. Actually just a test with trees and grass, which I finally have an decent amount of.

Re: D-Day
Looks very nice with all the grass and foliage. I'd love to see if you could make a iron clad for this along with a shore.
Re: D-Day
Looks really cool. Love the use of the plants.

Thanks! What do you mean with 'iron clad'?

Re: D-Day
He means one of the iron clad landers. Iron clad is a colonial expression for a warship covered in iron plating.
He could also mean a tank, in which I don't know the origin of his point.
On to the MOC: The foliage is dense and good: all I wish were that this were 50x this size.

Me too. If you could get me the plants, baseplates and 5 more tan torsos and legs I could do that.

That is an awesome way to represent this historical day. The grass technique is very good and I might just have to steal it

Thanks! That's a very simple technique, though.

Re: D-Day
By iron clad I meant the first ship to every be made of metal. A picture. The picture isn't very clear on color but it was gray.
Re: D-Day
Saw this on flickr, and may I say I just love it! The combo of all the plants and plant heights just make it wonderful! And thanks again for remembering D-Day! I might just have to build my own D-Day vig if I have enough time...

Okay first of all those are two different eras and completely different wars.

Re: D-Day
Ano, at a time like this the only thing you can do to save whatever credibility you will have with the world is to say you meant the iron clad ships that landed American troops on Omaha beach.

Re: D-Day
Great use of plants, DP.
Even though they missed their drop zones by a long shot...

Yup, but it was like that in the planning.

Re: D-Day
Great job DP, you really captured it here with the plant pieces and the trees. I think you did this almost perfectly.
Re: D-Day
The minifigures are simple, but good idea. But, I don't think that it "gets" The D-day well enough. Maybe some enemy gunners in the trees, or some more stuff. But the plant idea is really good.

Re: D-Day
All it is is grass (That was put in very well) and cool minifigs. Hate to be frank, but it just does not say "D-day" to me. It is not bad, but it needs more.

It's just WWII and it's supposed to be D-Day. Got it?

Yeah, your right. Just to put it in the way. But still, you did well.DarthPineapple wrote:It's just WWII and it's supposed to be D-Day. Got it?

Re: D-Day
Very nice representation. I love the use of the foliage. My only complaint is that there needs to be more dirt and mud.

Actually, a pile of 1x1 round brown studs tossed onto the scene would add to the ambience.

Ok. You can include those in your shipment of leaves, fig parts and baseplates.

You know what stinks...
My brickarms came late and I couldn't make an MOC for D-day...
UNLESS I go run and build it!
