Snap-Shot: A WWII MOC

Post by pdragon27 on Wed Jun 10, 2009 1:05 am

I'm in a WWII mood. Well, here's the story. A British war-photographer snaps a pic of a German opening up his MG42 in front of a damaged building in North Africa before quickly shooting him. It's not my best work, but I thought it was interesting, so I posted it.

It looks good. Just one thing though, the German's looks freaky though. Oh and nice LEGO camera. Smile

Heh. ModelGal said that too. (Not the German Part)

Personally, I like the face, he looks like the kind of guy who'd operate an MG42.

Your German is okay, but maybe more bley on him. Wink

The diorama is good as well, the little barricade, the details on the wall, the British (Agatean Bomb Squad Razz) Photographer, pretty good for something simple.

Keep in mind though, Alpha, that these were members of the Afrika Korps. I think he looks fine for desert combat, but needs a tad more dark brown.

The MG42 does NOT impress me. It's a splendid gun, execpt I don't see too much a resemblance. Of course, it'd be hard to do properly. The Camera techinque is very nice, bravo on that Wink !

Yeah, I was building the MG42 from memory, no reference pics whatsoever...so I think its good...And yeah, the Afrika Korps wore tan uniforms.

It's pretty cool, but why would he take a pic of the enemy? The pics they took were meant to be published in articles, magazines and newspapers.

Maybe he was going to blind him with the flash then steal his gun and then kill him.

Well, probably not, but anyway, it is a good MOC. Razz

I don't think you quite grasp the concept of war photography. Any of your own men can stand and pretend. But only the enemy will do it for real. And real is important to historical accuracy. Gosh, I sound like Sial. Run away!

No, that's not true. For example I saw a pic of an Italian soldier coming out of an tank with his hands in the air, and a British Commonwealth soldier waiting outside. It was put in scene, just for the pic.

DP, of what I gather from your post it sounds like you're saying 'why is he photographing the enemy'. From what I can see a German officer is snapshotting a German machine gunner. Unless the MGer is his sworn blood nemesis and thus his enemy, I see no sense in your post. Wink

I like your damaged building a lot, the way the MG423 is positioned is very nice and even though it is not your best work, I think that you did very well with this. Wink

See, 80-0?
Anyhoo, nice job on this! The MG42 is nice, and the vig has a good general level of detail.
