Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
Essentially nothing more than a souped-up, two-man escape pod; this high altitude deployment craft allows for the 541st's distinctively green airborne division to insert onto the battlefield when LAMRC's, LAAT/i's, or other conventional winged landers are unable to perform their duty. Useful for dropping heavily armed troops into equally heavily defended territory, the pod is capable of sustaining multiple hits from flak and high-energy laser rounds, as well as being able to blast it's way through any obstruction. The forward mounted fins, coupled with the massive speed of the craft, can easily cut a pod-size swathe in any building, wall, or patch of grass. The massive rear ion engine is independant of the crew cabin, and can be safely ejected if a silent glide-in approach is needed, or in emergency situations. When landed, the two man team readies themselves, bolt-ejects the hatch, and comes out shooting.
It was named in memory of Lieutenant Commander Dmitri Meehan, in a joke between Colonel Turaki Kaier and CC-1145/80. Meehan was reported to have reservations at dropping in with the Airborne in a Jax-Type glider IFV. The Jax-Type glider, is substantially more controllable, and sturdy than this hot-rod of a craft, however.
She started out as table scraps, a little project I had put together - trying to figure out how to make good use of that ugly escape pod piece - that turned into a MOC. The bignette is really just an experiment for my eventual Quarantine MOC. I found though, that I didn't have nearly enough bricks for as much detail as I wanted to put into this - so I'm thanking my stars that he's having us do just a 16X16 . Yeah, yeah, it could use some work - of that I'm aware .
I thought it was fun to put together, though .

Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
See, Sial? If you MOC more, you get better! This is nice, but it seems like you took the design mostly from the escape pod in the 6211 Star Destroyer...

Well, the 6211 escape pod really was just those two molded pieces and some nonsense at the back... I just thought I'd capitalize on it; make it better.
Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
Still looks pretty nice. Nice GIMPing as usual and the pod isn't half bad!
Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
I think you could use this for the GBuild...
But anyways, it looks alright, not much special about it...

Dude. STFU. You don't insult Sial's GIMP skillz. Sial is the best friggin' GIMPer here. He obviously wasn't trying.
@Sial: I see what you did there with the dust! Very nice.

Dude, WTF is your problem? He said the pod! The POD! NOT the GIMPing! The POD ISN'T HALF BAD! Sheesh...
Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
I'm gonna applaud at Sial, and ROFLMAO at PD.
I can easily see 2 of these things gliding through the skies hitting key elements of a city, then your Airborne bursting out and opening fire... Though the pod itself looks a bit 'chubby', make it thinner, or use bricks to make a thinner pod instead of the 2 huge pieces.

Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
That's a straightforward, solid scene. The pod MOC is nothing complicated but spot-on, it totally fits the (good) story background.
Do more stuff like that. Your projects are enjoyable.

Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
It reminds me of a significantly smaller edition of that Republic transport that looked like a Republic Cruiser(3 engines) but with the pelican-esque underbelly, mainly because of how the pod area droops down. I like the feel though: it does come off as a solid escape pod.

I can see that too. But one suggestion, try using multiple smaller engines rather than one big one, I think it'll look better.
@PhiMa. Dude, your reaction was effing hilarious. Chill.
Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
Beautifully displayed. I like it a lot. We all should miss Meehan from your comics. I think the idea of having a gun stored in the door is very clever.

No, I'm not going to 'chill' because you treat Gerrard like Crap just because you think he's a noob! Well guess what, he got in the guild, which probably means the council thought he was good enough, so live with.

Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
That's pretty awesome! I love that little weapon compartment in one of the doors. Will these appear in your comics?
I can see it now: A couple of squads of droids, then one points at the sky, and the pod comes flying down and crushes the first squad. The others open fire at it, but to no avail. Then the door blasts open, destroying another squad, and a hail of blaster fire comes out of it, destroying the final squad, and two airborne guys come out.
By the way, what rank/specialty does that troop with the cape have?

Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
You do realise that 'not half bad' means 'pretty good', right? So what he said was:pdragon27 wrote:Dude. STFU. You don't insult Sial's GIMP skillz. Sial is the best friggin' GIMPer here. "Nice GIMPing and the pod's pretty good."
No insults at all. See, it helps if you read what someone posted before telling them to STFU. Of course, now I've read your post, I can say, with a clear conscience:
PD, STFU.
Alternatively, you can jump on someone for no reason again and I'll make you STFU for a week or so. Mmkay?

And if you keep doing that, PD, I'll make you STFU forever.

Sergeant. The cape is a sling for weapons and equipment.
Re: Meehan-Type Deployment Pod
You really do city scapes nicely I must admit. Also this is a great idea for a vehicle. Low risk for insertation makes a lot of sense and this just has a really great feel to it.
