The Mission at San Lucia

Post by 80-0 on Tue Jul 14, 2009 2:17 pm

This is my latest MOC. It consists of a Jesuit Mission, a Jesuit priest, a young friend of his, a patrol of redcoats, and a horde of pirates all clashing at once.

Right now I can direct you to the Gallery, and present you with several generic shots of the scene. I'm going to make two sets on Flickr, one of the storyline in order of occurance, and one of the review of the mission chapel itself.

So enjoy these pics and by all means check out the Gallery.

(all 20 figures, both cannons, the dusty road, and the mission together)

(I made him using a batman cape on the back, a regular black cape on the front with the sides tucked in for the cassock, the Shanghai black fedora, and the head of the conquistador who came with silver armor[red torso])

(don't play with dynamite)

(another general shot with the entire redcoat patrol)

As aforesaid, I'll edit links for the sets into this first post, so keep tabs on it while you can.

EDIT: The Mission review set is ready for viewing here. I just haven't finished the descriptions for the pics yet so I'm working on that now.

It's a cool MOC. I really like the detail on the church. But what the heck would the pirates want to do with a church?

Think, man, think! They aren't attacking the church, they're chasing the redcoats and they just happened to be passing the Church.

But pirates, if they were attacking the church, have insatiable greed and will do anything to get their hands on riches and such things.

The church is pretty good but I don't like the transition between the large and smaller part on the right.

That part was probably the easiest part to do, and I think I rushed it. I had the idea of the sacristy from the beginning, but no clue whatsoever how to adjoin the two... Razz

The church is amazing! I think this is one of your best works yet! But any reason it looks like its falling on its side in the first pic?

Again, I have an explanation for that. Since I wanted to use the larger baseplate for the road(16x32) I had to come up with a makeshift 'baseplate' for the church. I wound up using four 8x12 dark bley plates all arranged in a rectangular shape, and I put a 4x6 plate underneath them in the center to support them. This also made it sag on the four opposing ends.

EDIT: I used four 6x12 plates, not 8x12. Embarassed

Ooh I like it, the fedora works (as would some other hair pieces), the church is nice. Is there an opposite side to the church?

It looks the same on both sides, if that's what you mean. It wasn't easy making the top part over the church even on both sides, as I found I had only fifteen, not sixteen, of those little half-arches in the Imperial Landing Craft.

Regarding the hairpieces, in the story set I at one point gave him a basic brown hairpiece which looks surprisingly good on that head.

I really like how you can see barely any studs on the church. The church is amazing even on the inside. I also like how you put various things inside the church rather then leaving it blank. Even the smallest details add a lot to this Moc. Overall Great work!

That's a nice collection of Imperials! The mission building techniques are really nice, good work on that!
