Which option?
Sorting
I'm almost ready to sort my spare bricks (I've gotten a nice cupboard and bins for this a year ago already ) and I was wondering: What is the best way to sort all bricks?
These are the options I could think of:
-Sort everything color by color and mix all types of bricks. < Not a good way, IMO. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
- Sort color by color, but separate small and large parts from each other.
- Sort by part type (plate, tile, brick, etc) and mix colors, so you have a bin of tiles, a bin of small plates, etc.
-Sort by part type and don't mix colors. < Probably easiest way but will require dozens of bins.
So what do you think is the best? Or is there a different way that works best?

Re: Sorting
I sort by part type. And I mix colours. I have these small 'suitcases' you could say with compartments (see lego room thread) and then sort by pieces, i.e. 2x2 slopes in one, 4xwhatever plates in one, tiles in one, 1x1 studs in one, wheels in one, etc. Works best Imo, cause then If you're looking for a piece, you just go to the one compartment, instead of searching for it in a single colour bin.
Re: Sorting
Yea I was thinking that too. However I don't have a lot of bins so I will probably sort something like plates 1x1 to 4x6 in one bin, others in other bin, bricks 1x1 to 2x10 in one bin, others in other bin, etc.

Re: Sorting
I sort by type, size, and colour. For instance with my plates, 2x2 square and rounds are in one bin, 2x4 are in another bin, 2x6 through 2x16 share a bin. Anything larger than that are in a much larger shoe box sized box. I keep some of the parts I have larger quantities of in their own bins sorted by color, i.e. bricklink and pab purchases.
That works best I think if you have a regular Lego budget to color correct parts of your mocs.

Re: Sorting
Sort by color(s), then part type (plate, tile, brick, etc).

...a. Bricks
...b. Plates
...c. Technics
...d. Misc

...a. Bricks
...b. Plates
...c. Technics
...d. Misc

Re: Sorting
Already sorted everything fig related, and technic is just one big box as I don't use it often. Maybe I should sort all pins and beams out of it but will see.

Re: Sorting
I sort by color, so when I'm building something I don't need like a bunch of boxs!

Re: Sorting
I have 7 shoe boxes filled with most of my Lego, when building something like my choppa I empty them all out and search for the bits I need and put them in my 'useful bits' box which later turns into another shoe box as another one takes it's place. So each shoe box is basically filled up with useful pieces from each Lego project. So one shoe box might be filled up with parts for bots, another with useful pieces for walker and so on. I now it isn't ideal put if you have little Lego and no life it works fine.
Re: Sorting
I've updated the poll choices, please vote which is best.
