A piece of ground through history.. 3874424573_bf54b40dcd

Although it is rather simple, I'm quite satisfied with this idea - of one piece of ground in Britain through our accepted history. This is the first one, during the Cretaceous Period - as you can see by the dinosaur.

Part II - The Romans.

Part III - The Middle Ages.

Part IV: The English Civil War.

Part V - The Victorian Age. (setting up telegraph wires and a railway).

Part VI - The Invasion of the Martians.

So, was this a crazy idea or a sound one?

The concept's well done, and while it could be better built, the creativity involved - I think - would eclipse any amount of ability put into this.

That, and Old Tripods > New Tripods Wink .

Pah. Like anything could be better than the description by Wells:

Monstrous tripods, higher than the tallest steeple...

I dislike the film's basis. The whole shock of the Martians was their superiority to Victorian guns. Cannons versus heat ray? We know who's going to win.

But tanks and missiles versus tottering tripods? A species that never discovered Radio or the wheel?

We'd win. End of.

Anyway...

It could be built better, concurred - although my lack of general building skills seems to have put paid to that. Sad

I said I liked Well's Tripods - PAH-ing at me! Old is Greater Than New.... Wink

Oh! OH! No, uh-uh. Can't do that. Too easy. Gotta give them the I WIN button of shields. Can't give them something creative to defend themselves with, or even let them be taken down by our military in a Pyrrhic victory as were they by the British in the novel....

...you have to give them shields.

No No! I disagree, I have to say, that these MOC's are very simple and to the point, I mean, they could have been built better, but they're fine how they are. I liked them on flickr and I like them here. Wink

Woops!

Sorry Sial, I'm not good with '<' at all. Please promise never to use it again, it really mucks my brain up. Embarassed Razz

...you have to give them shields.

See, that's why I agree with you on old beating new. It ruins the whole idea! The Martians lost only two tripods in the novel, one by the cannonade and one by Thunder Child. It makes them..well, dull if they can't be beaten. Then it'd just apocalyptic, not 'intelligences greater than man, and yet as mortal as his own'.

Mind you, thanks to Star Wars, everyone wants glowy shields and super-fast hyper ships, not revolutionary ideas.

I'll finish my rant with Kepler:

But who shall live in these worlds if they be inhabited?...are we or they lords of the world? And are all things made for man?

Oh, and thanks for the feedback, guys. Do excuse the excessive ranting, it's unusual. Wink

Saw this on flickr, while maybe a bit more detail could be added, it's still very cool and pretty well done. Wink

It was so crazy, it became sound in your mind, and was put into some nice little MOCs.

This was a funny MOC because it's all serious, and then the picture at the end draws a laugh to even the most cold-hearted soul. Good work!
