Episode 20: The Core of the Matter

Post by Zepher on Sat Sep 26, 2009 4:55 pm

Season 1
Episode 20
The Core of the Matter

I went for a corny title. Sue me.

I tried to go for a little bit of a horror film feel with this one, simple becuase the fog stopped the clones from knowing where the enemy was. I think it turned out okay... I'm happy with some shots and not so happy with some others! Hope you enjoy, and please leave a comment telling me what you did and di not like!

There's a hidden name in the last picture, and in the second to last, though that one didn't come out very well. And yes, I used the same picture twice, I mis-counted while taking the pictures. Sue me twice over.

Also, it's easier to see what's happening in the pictures if you look at them on eye level opposed to a little higher.

Truthfully, I don't like your spelling at the beginning of your post. Razz
Wouldn't that be great, to have Versilles to come out, actually being the traitor? It'd be like him not dying because of "missed" shots. Except, because of the beginning few frames, we know it's the Foreman.

Or do we? There's still room for a plot twist, Zeph. Wink

You know we still have two seasons left after this one. You think the main character is the traitor? Well, that would be an interesting twist actually, but I'm going to come out and say, no, that's not correct.

And twists will come later Jinja, promise. This is just the first season, it's only used to intro the characters! The other seasons will have far more intricate story lines.

Any thoughts on this comic itself? Liked the editing? Didn't?

Firefly only had one season... Razz

As for the comic itself, I thought it was a little bland. It moves the plot forward a fraction of an inch, and there's quite a lot of redundant material. The editing is meh, as it just looks like you went mad with the airbrush and isn't particularly fog-like. Being in fog looks more like you're inside a dome within which you can see reasonably well, but outside is just fog and shadows (and fog is more grey than white). I suggest trying a more realistic approach and less of this swirly cloudy rubbish. Wink Also, you need more hair pieces. I know it's been said, but you haven't fixed it yet.

On the plus side, your speech bubbles look better with the centred text. Maybe try and get a black outline? It would help seperate bubbles in the more foggy panels.

thank you Jinja. You basically sumerised my own thoughts on this comic, but sometimes I feel that I need to throw in some action. I wasn't very happy with the fog in this one, actually, and I am already making it more grey in the next one Laughing

All major changes, such as hair growth and majoy changes to editing will be done between Seasons 1 and 2. I wanted to give them actual time to grow hair

Alright, my thoughts about this:

At some points, I thought the fog was a bit TOO much because I could barely see what was going on. It was also hard to keep track of what happened. I'm not quite sure who got shot by 'scoutclone' either. But, it was nicely done, and I await the next comic.

It's really bereft of any unique plot developments. They go out into the fog, they can't see anything, there's an attack, a traitor is pointed out, the Seps press further into the city. Not much of import or anything really remarkable (although, I shouldn't talk either, as mah next comic is just setting up the subsequent, really Razz ...).

The fog is just too heavy. That would have to be what killed this for me. When you're unable to see the events, it begins to lose the reader's attention. There are ways of making it seem foggy, without turning the screen white Wink . Although, when we all get a new technique, we just can't ever let it sit in our toolbox, we've got to first use it to death Razz . Kid -> new toy.... so I understand  .

Because hair growth is a major thing these days.

Razz

@ Sial: You mention the things that happened in this comic as if they're a problem; in my view, the problem is not the events. I really fail to see how a traitor isn't something important. "Oh, and we have a traitor. Big whoop. We'll be fine." The real problem is the rate at which they happen. The events happen blindingly (heh, in fog?) fast; for most of the time you're blinded by fog, you see a mysterious skeleton with a Scout trooper helmet, a full body cloak, a spear, and a huge blaster jump out and stab Gruff. Then you see a clone tell another clone to grab Gruff, and you see a clone standing next to the helmeted skeleton. Then you see the clones fire at something else, and then you see Helmet Skellie next to a clone gunner helmet flying through the air standing in front of a NON decapitated clone body. Where did the helmet come from if not the corpse on the ground, which clearly has a helmet with a floodlight?

Now we leave these poor SOBs to deal with their invisible nemesis (Razz) who's killing them left and right it seems and we go back to the front, where we see there's a lot of droids coming. Apparently the mines didn't work! OH NO! There must be a traitor! And then they throw around ideas on who it could be, and talk suspicious talk. And that's it! So it seems there's not enough time spent in either areas; we could've seen less of Gruff walking with the orange commander, and more of Helmet Skellie. Likewise we could've seen a bit more of the battle on the front.

I personally think it's that girl we saw earlier in the series. It's crazy, but that's my opinion.

OR it's just a clone, which would, as we know, make absolutely no sense, because we all know clones don't have enough independence to do something like that, MR. GEORGE GORRAM LUCAS, YES, YOU. Mad

Oh, you're using my name now? Razz

He does; the entire CW series is canon (unfortunately) and he's the only one who can make that happen, as far as I know (which tends to be less further than I think, most of the time), so that episode that led into Chrystophsis either slipped past him, or something else.

Then again, since it was only one clone, it could've easily been a gene malfunction, considering the bombs he laid in the hangar area so very quickly; that l33t skill is reminiscent of an ARC trooper.

I'm sorry, but the traitor isn't ignored. They reach the conclusion that they have a traitor second before they are attacked, they can'
t really do anything. The other group, Aranis and Kuplo, notice they have a traitor at the end of the comic, so that will most likely be dealt with in the next episode.
