762nd Comic
I've finally started it, and I've been working on this for five days - this is some of what I've made so far... (some stuff is missing and is yet to be editted)
To make the scenes how I want I use a lot of digital art, 3d images taken from Unreal Editor (mainly trees), and lots of photostacking as I don't have enough Lego to build these for only one photo.
Anyways, whats your opinion on this?

This is amazing! I can't wait. Where did you do the editing though?

This is all done with GIMP - if you know what you're doing, GIMP works well for making comics.
Besides, I lost the program I had for making comics during one of my hard drive failures and yet to download it again.

Re: 762nd Comic
- And I don't care, it's relevant.
I was not impressed with my last comic (with the effort and the result), so I've been seeking other ways to tell the story.
This is what I tested out next... (using LDD, MLCAD, POV-Ray, and various add-ons)
While it's not right yet, especially the lighting, I see some promise in it - and the aspect of infinite lego bricks is very appealing as well.
If you have something to say about this change, please post it.

The digital image is that you copy and pasting? Or a program. If its a program then what I like about it is the ability to manipulate light and camera angle easier then with real images.
Looks good both ways though.

I still use GIMP to do the layout and speech bubbles - POV-Ray renders the scene, saves it as an image, and I import that into GIMP.

That's what I like about it too. That, and I don't have to stack photos for 3-4 hours per scene because of my lack of bricks and money; photos with slightly (yet significantly) different lighting and camera setups that look odd when put together.
Re: 762nd Comic
I Honestly the prefer the real image over the digital image mostly because,
1. The restrictions make you think of better and more creative ideas.
2. The digital image comic doesn't look as good as the real image comic.

Both have thier pros and cons, but I think Real Image would be better because it is possible to do things that wouldn't be able to be done on Digital Image and it looks more realistic IMO.
Re: 762nd Comic
Wow.
I like the look and color of real LEGO, but the scope and feel of the digital image is great!

It's not really about the Lego anymore - it's about the story, and I've been working on this story for a long time. And if I can't find a well-presented AND efficient way of telling it, then I won't tell it at all.

Technically, digital allows more possibilities - for example, I'm not bound by gravity, I can make objects float in an image without the need of cutting and pasting. The light sources can simulates sunlight, unlike lamps or ceiling lights which are point sources. And I can create new objects from scratch without the need of physical materials, utensils or precision use of them, and the risks of screwing up; instead, I need a good set of vectors.
But, yes, these possibilities aren't there from the start. I need to fiddle around a bit more, and also make a heap of models if I'm doing to do this, such as:
Clone Trooper P2 Helmet (Hard)
Various custom helmets (Moderate, after building P2 helmets)
Super Battle Droid (Very Hard)
Battle Droid Straight Arm (Very Easy)
Chain Saw Body (Easy)
My custom weapons (Easy)
Re: 762nd Comic
Hey, these are pretty good! The digital effects are real good looking, though they don't look too lego-ey. Overall, pretty good! Though, the digital look somewhat ruins the fact it is a Lego comic, but it still looks good.

Re: 762nd Comic
I'm satisfied with the scenes and how they look (much better than the comparison above, trust me) so now I'm starting on the clone trooper models:

Re: 762nd Comic
Ah, I thought this was like a regular 3d program... is this like autocad (i've never used it). I was picturing something like 3D Studio Max where you push and pull the points yourself.
Re: 762nd Comic
Very cool. I think there should be a ton of clones, not just two groups of them.

Don't worry, there will be scenes with hundreds of clones, but I like to keep it reasonable.
Also, in the last comic, those two groups were actually the same group. It was two photos stitched together.

It's called POV-Ray. It's a free third-party program, and it's not the best out there, but because its requires code and maths (which I'm experienced with) and allows me to import LEGO models from MLCAD and (indirectly) LDD, it works well for me.

The stuff we can do with computers today is amazing.

Re: 762nd Comic
Surprise, surprise, I'm giving up on this as well.
I simply don't have the time or will for it, and even if I did, the amount of detail I desire and tone of the story just wouldn't fit right with LEGO. I'm not happy with how it's turning out, so I'm looking for another way to do it. Or dropping it altogether, but I haven't totally given up on it.
I suspect none of you were particularly looking forward to it anyways, and Clone Wars stuff is no longer the fuss anymore, so no big deal.
