Ridley v1.1 (Metroid)

Post by cln-cmndo on Wed Jun 23, 2010 12:56 am

Ok, it has been a dream of mine to build a Lego Ridley for a while, and here is version 1.1.

1.0 didnt make it long enough for good pictures to be taken.

The arms look unfinished with the exposed technic pieces and the whole moc is covered with studs and jagged edges. I would also try redesigning the feet, they look rather blocky. Wink But I do like the head.

I would ask an admin to move this to the WIP thread. With a little work this could be a great moc. Smile

Actually I just re-did the head...

But i see what you mean with the arms...

The jagged edges... I really can't do to much about that... maybe redo the wings...

But the feet? thats the best I've ever done on his feet...
Ok, I'll try to redo the arms and wings, but this isnt exactly a WIP... its just gonna be updated occasionally. Like an iPhone App. Razz

As an avid Metroid fan, I really like this. However, the legs are somewhat too long and the wings are too small. I like the hands and head.

I like the head, but the arm area should be covered instead of leaving grey studs visible. Wink Smile

It's a pretty rough first try. I LOVE Metroid so much and applaud you for attempting to build a creature so sophisticated. However a lot of work must be done. For example there are bricks missing in the arm, and large dark tan plates are visible in the wings. I don't know if you checked out reference pics online but it would be a good idea. Smile She's also pretty rough in the body. An even ratio distribution between studs and slopes/tiled/snot parts in mocs makes a creation ugly. My suggestion to you is to try to go completely studless (or at least for the most part- it's ok to have a stud here and there) or stud her up to make it look really scaly etc. Wink

Well, I redid the head, wings, and I added plating to the arms. He'll be used in a stop-motion series, (I just finished shooting his first appearance,) and they should be posted on some video hosted website soon. Razz

EDIT: BTW, this series takes place between Metroid (NES) and Metroid Prime. His backstory is...

After Samus crippled him on planet Zebes, the Space Pirates aided him through the use of cybernetic enhancements. However, with much of his organic matter left intact, implants were only used where nessecary. He is armed with his Flame Breath, and a cyborganic Kinetic Breath Lazer has been added for a long-range attack. His primary attacks also include ramming his opponents, hitting them with his whip-like tail, and picking them up to breath fire on them.

Ok, there's his backstory. Smile

EDIT AGAIN: Actually, this was my first try:

Laughing Me too. This one was based mostly on his Super Metroid appearance. Yet we all know he looks like crud. Razz

I am not quite sure what it is so I won't critique it to badly.

  • Make the wings bigger.
  • Use the 1x6 rounded slope piece instead of the 1x3 slope piece you used.
  • Take better pictures next time. (Blurry and bad backdrop.)

Sorry if I am wrong with anything, I don't play Metroid so I am not sure if the wings should be longer, but it looks unfinished.

Consider it done. The head: Remodled to be more streamlined. The wings: Remade with (unfortunately) some Bionicle pieces. The rest: some detail and plating. I'll have pictures up within a week. Smile
