Micro Scale Pod Racer
101 pieces with frame and driver.
101 pieces with frame and driver.
It’s hard to see but if look closely you’ll note that the frame is built off a single 1x1x1 5 studded brick. The pods are supported at 45 degree angles from the center brick and the sled is support at about a 20 degree angle. Coming forward from the center point are two trans poles support the weight of the engines and keep it from tipping forward at center point of the frame.
Re: Double Your Pleasure!
It's been a terribly long time since I've posted here, or entered a contest, but it looks like this might be the contests to fix that.
Life, liberty, and podracing for happiness.
I wanted to take a semi "practical" approach to my entry. That meant it had to look mean, green, and fast. The base of the Statue of Liberty inspired the pod's winglet configuration and star pattern they make with the headrest.

Big engines for big power. Every segment of the engines is round, but either has a different shape or diameter, so I ended up using 5 different techniques for all the segments of the engines.

Winglets along with joysticks and pedals for stability and control. I also really wanted the fig to actually sit in the pod.

Re: Double Your Pleasure!
Tons of great entries over on FBTB. I was a litte concerned though about some of the entries though. So PM'd FBTB staff:
Hey, last few times I saw issues with entries I made the mistake of ignoring them until later in the competition. This time I carefully looked at the currently posted entries before the final bell. So I’m wondering by the lack of public comments by staff if these are going to be acceptable? I don't want to go waving my hands saying "hey you broke the rules". Just have the staff come back and say it's ok, thus the PM and not a post. Thanks --Rook

Camera code says “2007”. I’m guessing they never formatted their camera’s memory?

Extra monkeys in cockpit. Not sure if they're consider accessories.

Has modified hands (they're brown and should be yellow).

Not sure if those are custom stickers on the buildings or not, but this one is so cool I’d hate to see it get eliminated if they are custom.

Funny but clearly pushing the “rules don’t matter” ideal with all the extra disassembled minifigures.
Re: Double Your Pleasure!
Yeah I remember being suspicious of entries and not complaining soon enough. Most of the issues seem to be with less than well built pods, which is good. I did notice the monkeys in the banana racer though.
Re: Double Your Pleasure!
Got a good reply from FBTB staff. Only one they had an issue with was the brown hands on the elf.

I meant to put red hands on the trailing edges of the winglets on the engines.

Re: Double Your Pleasure!
Yes it's mine. I had made a yahoo account long before I joined fbtb as blackninjatom, and then I didn't use flickr for another year after that, so I just kept them different.
And if the meatgrinder pod doesn't fix it's energy binder it's going to be DQed.

Ok vote twice for who has the best:
Once for Minifigure Pod.
&
Once for Micro Scale.

Well there you have it. Split down the middle.
Blackninjatom take gold for Minifigure Scale, Rook silver.
And Rook takes gold for Micro Scale, Blackninjatom silver.

They lady liberty is nice, but certainly not my favorite.. I like Rook's and Godzilla the best. It reminded me of that old factory set with the skyline!
Re: Double Your Pleasure!
I thought the Radio-Active Flyer might have made top 5, but I voted for 3 of the 5 that made it.
Not Rook's though...

FBTB Staff wrote:It's been a great contest with loads of fantastic entries and the final votes are in. The winner of this year's Podrace Challenge is Sparkart with his Lady Liberty based Ghostbusters Chibi Pod Racer:
The idea behind this is just too clever if you ask me, and the build is right up there as well. A well deserved 1st place design. The collectable minifigures turned out to be an excellent source of inspiration and made the voting especially hard for everyone. Click here to view the rest of the top five entries.
Coming in a close second place is Igginz with the Godzilla Pod:
Another case of a great concept getting knocked out of the park. I sort of hoped that figure would get and entry like this, and this is way better than I imagined. Interesting to note that this received the most votes in the preliminary round.
Rounding out the top three is Volumex's Grey Alien based BluPhazem:
Of the top five finalists, this is the entry that felt the most like a "real" podracer I think, and it's a really nice design all around. It was one of my favorites and I'm happy to see it do so well.
Rockin its way into fourth place is Rook's DJ based Emsee Eezee:
A cool entry made even better by some black light aided photography. It's a shame those trans blue parts aren't UV reactive as well.
Finally, in fifth place, we have ZetoVince's Super Wrestler podracer:
As the first entry to the contest, just 10 days into the build phase, I was absolutely blown away when it was posted. I conferred with Ace and if our memory serves us right this it the only time the first submission to a contest made it into the final round. It deserved it though.
I want to say congratulations to everyone because the turn out for this was incredible. I hope to see a lot of these in person next month at LEGOLand's Star Wars Days event. Thanks for participating!
