Looking out for one of our own.
Reported on The Brothers Brick
Missing person: Heather Braaten (aka “LEGO Girl”)
No, this is neither a drill nor a joke. Unfortunately, Heather Braaten, whom many of you may know as “HeatherLEGOGirl” online, has been missing since last Tuesday (March 20, 2012). Heather is an active member of SEALUG here in Seattle, a regular BrickCon attendee, and active on Flickr, MOCPages, and Bricklink (where she was active as recently as the day she was last seen). Here’s a picture of Heather:
Heather, if you’re out there and can read this, we hope you’re safe and sound. Just know that there’s a whole world of people who care about you, and we’re worried. Please, reach out and let one of us know you’re okay.
You can see the official Missing Person Report on the Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs website.
If you see Heather or know where she is, please contact the Seattle Police Department. You can also chime in with a comment here, on Lino’s photo (link on pic above), or send Lino an email: linotopia AT hotmail DOT com. Lino is in touch with Heather’s mom and will be passing along any leads that come through online channels like TBB comments and Flickr.

I saw this on Flickr and MOCpages. The whole situation is just weird.

Re: Looking out for one of our own.
Yah sounds like she may be suicidal or slipping in heavy drug use. To basically delete your user profile on Flickr and then disappear a few weeks later shows intent to change one's life dramatically or end it. Then there's always a slight chance that her disappearance is unrelated to her web life and that is even scarier.

Yes, drugs do have powerfull influence on people's lives. I know (knew) one man who did drugs, stopped the drugs, got married, and then dissapeared.
Re: Looking out for one of our own.
Hey I did not disappear and I did not do them in that order. Oh wait you're not talking about me.

Wow, I live in Washington. Pretty sad for the Lego community. The sad part is that I haven't seen anything on my local news about her. Best of luck to her.

Very troubling indeed, my thoughts go out to her and her family.

Yeah by the sounds of it she may have mental health or drug issues. So they may be thinking she's alive. If they thought it was a homicide they'd have it all over the news. Which is good news for her well being but bad news for finding her and getting her help, if that’s the case.

Bad news,

Thank you for the love, prayers and support you shared and thank you for your efforts made in Heather’s search, whether it be blogging about it, handing out flyers or searching in your own neighborhoods. Unfortunately her body was found yesterday, April 1st 2012. She valued her friendships and especially the LEGO community. Her family said it was ok for me to post this image and this write up. These are all the details I know for now and I will keep you all posted as I know more.
