Tie Mauler
I'm at a stand still and I need some advice on how to form the tread-frames. I have a bunch of ideas but they don't seem to work out. Once I have the tread-frame the rest should follow.
Also, the Tie Mauler has triangular treads and it is a quarter of the size of the Tie Crawler in realistic dimensions. It has... Oh heck, just look it up on Wookiepedia.

Re: Tie Mauler
I would stick with 2 of those corner plates also found on the TIE crawler, with some wedges underneath. Try to have the same build as a TIE Crawler, than it would be study AND nice.

I'd use technic pieces for the tread frames for strength, then use standard parts for detail, kinda like on the tank droid.

Re: Tie Mauler
I know, I'm using the pieces from the Crawler. DP, can you be more specific as to wedges? And what corner plates do you mean? You've left me rather confused...
ABL, I do plan to use the SOT technic pins to get some plates on the outside for that same Tie Crawler look.

Re: Tie Mauler
Starting with a Tie Crawler is a good idea, if you've ever built the Crawler (which I assume you HAVE) I'd try to use the same techniques the set used for the tread housings, since the Mauler's are pretty much the same, just a different shape.

Re: Tie Mauler
Try these twice and add this one. Also add some plates. Then you have the side panels you need.

Here's mine I did several years ago. It's crap but it least you can see what not to do.

Except for the white, it isn't that bad...

It was going to be for a ice planet scene. But I never built it. Not enough white pieces back then.
Re: Tie Mauler
But is it meant to be snow or just a white Mauler?

It seems I misspoke. I know what bricks to put on the outside, but what goes on the inside is what I need to figure out.
ANYWAY, I got an idea of what to do and I built it. I also put the plates on the outside, and now I look it up on Wookiepedia and instead of being a triangle with a cut off top it's a full triangle. But I've got the idea as to what to do for now.
Also, Rook, that ain't half bad at all!

White + Snow = Camouflage.

This is Rook we're talking about. Anything less than absolute perfection is burned. I'm surprised he still has pictures.DarthPineapple wrote:Except for the white, it isn't that bad...

Ha! Thanks. Yep, there's almost always a reason for me doing something. I try to live life like I play chess: "Always a few steps ahead." Having worked in a dbl. max prison you learn to plan ahead, about everything, incluing building "toys".
Re: Tie Mauler
Rook, your is pretty good, and it's a GREAT inspiration! I oughta defeat you in chess some time!
