Attaching Rangefinders to Mechanical Claws
While trying to make a new weapon for a new minifig, I discovered this. And I haven't seen it done before so I thought I might share it - If you have seen it and/or it's plainly obvious, then, well, abuse/flame/ban or do whatever you need to do to make me feel like an idiot...
Anyways, on mechanical claws there is a small hole on one side - I'm guessing its needed there for the molding process (correct me if I'm wrong):
I noticed that the diameter of the hole is roughly the same diameter as the tab on the rangefinder.
Anyways, I simply tried to push the tab into the hole. With some rangefinders/claws it was a tight fit and I needed to force it it, but other times it fit in nicely. I was also able to rotate the rangefinder to any angle I wanted.
And that's basically how I made this:
Might seem a bit pointless but I guess it's something to consider doing...

That gun looks pretty cool, I've noticed that hole but never thought of putting a range finder in there. They'll also fit in any castle helmet with a spot for a plume, or the gas mask looking helmets with the hose around the front.

Freaking brilliant!

Brilliant! It's not often that people come up with this kind of techniques. If you attach a floodlight it could be some kind of wrist laser/launcher.

Yeah, Andromula(?) came up with a technique very similar to this with the fire piece.

I Agree, I'd say he's tied if not better then the CAC.
I love that technique I'll have to use it sooner later.
Re: Attaching Rangefinders to Mechanical Claws
I just tried it, it's awesome but when you take it out and put it in a clone helmet the rangefinder becomes loose, meaning you can only use it for the claw and other things.

That's such an ingenious technique! I used it as a folding stock for a SW SAW !
