Post by legorevolution Tue Jan 05, 2010 6:19 am

This is a project that has been in the back of my head for quite some time. I haven't really had the appropriate variation and amount of bricks to tackle it until now. I'll still have to go to bricklink A LOT because this diorama is going to be ENORMOUS. Hopefully I'll be able to a. finish it before brickworld b. actually be bringing ti to brickworld. The Force Unleashed is an awesome expansion of the Star Wars Universe and I'm completely surprised by the lack of mocs dedicated towards it.

This is the head/cockpit of an AT-CT that I've been working on for at least 18 hours. You know me, things have to be minifig scale, movie/game accurate, detailed, and of course playable. The angles and various techniques I've had to use has made the interior of this thing a living nightmare. I've got to lose the perfectionist trait in me, or I fear it will kill me. Laughing

By brick world you mean the one next fall in Seattle correct? If so I might see you there!!

Now about the MOC-

It looks pretty good so far. The technique you used on the front "panel" ,for lack of a, is very cool and its the first time I have seen it used. I really can't wait to see tis in it's finished glory.

TFU WIP Empty Re: TFU WIP

Post by legorevolution Mon Mar 01, 2010 2:50 am

After nearly 2 months of on and off work I finally finished the AT-CT. All in all it was an engineering nightmare that took a lot of time- so much that I lost count of how many days/hours I've spent on building it. Things I worked on were building it to minifig scale, making it accurate, including detail, and the hardest- making it balanced and able to stand upright. Here are my WIP pictures along the way.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi26 WIP head base structure.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi25 ... and more.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi24 The connection joint of the head, along with that wiring on the backside.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi23 Initial design of the back and the outward bending legs.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi22
WIP stage of the legs. The straight beam sloping upwards and back from the start of the heel is how the walker should have looked. However, this did not stabilize the feet what-so-ever and I had to make changes.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi21
Legs wip continued.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi10 Front shot of the final product. Again if there seem to be wrong colored pieces in areas, just ignore them. They'll be replaced.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi11 Front side shot.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi12 Back side shot.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi13 Back shot.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi14 The head is able to rotate around as long as the arms are shifted slightly forwards.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi15 The wire leading up from the base towards the bottom of the head helps keep the head from rotating back in forth, and will actually rotate it back into centered position.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi16 I faced numerous engineering problems when creating this walker, specifically making it to-scale, detailed, and accurate. The legs bend outwards like this in the game which allows the walker movement I suppose.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi17 The ball joint located behind the 1x3 dish allows the leg to move upwards this far, and downwards (not photographed) a pretty far ways. This was also another engineering nightmare.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi18 The ball joint I was talking about in the previous picture. Leg rotation inwards and outwards (along with up and down) can also be achieved with this baby.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi19 The hinge joint in the middle of the leg also provides further movement to the leg.

TFU WIP Tfu_wi20 The feet. This was hell, and the only part of the walker that is not completely accurate. Because of the odd angular shape of the walker, balance was nearly impossible. I had to incorporate that 135 degree technic beam, which also works as the middle toe, in order to shift weight coming down from the leg of the walker out from the heel, over pressing down and the top, and finishing through out in front. I'm not entirely pleased with the bulkiness here or the exposed technic holes, but it gets the job done and keeps my walker safe and upright.

So there we go! Updates will continue to come over the next few months.

Wow! It looks great. I too had problems with the legs supporting the head when building my AT-ST. Now on to you're MOC. I love the use of cheese slopes in the back, and all the little details about! Any interior shots? Smile

I have to say... accuracy achieved. I understand the frustration of the artist not being able to get the project to what He feels isn't perfect... but if its not perfect...it is pretty darn close. I look at the reference pictures and yours and it looks like the reference pictures were taken off of your build.

Nice job!

Shouldn't this be on the home page again? Smile

It was the first thing I saw when I came to cabg... and I believe it was one of the reasons I decided to stick around.

This absolutely should be frontpaged immediately; the use of those cheese slopes in the back is genius.

And the feet, and the way you worked the upper back of it is also excellent.

Well, I've been working on my TIE snot wing concept for the past week, and have it down as best as it will work. As I said on flickr "I've been working on a snot TIE Wing for the past few days, because the studded TLG version doesn't suite me. I tried to go with a clean design, and this is the best design I could come up with, yet I feel like it might be too wide in comparison to a trooper and lack of symmetry of spacing in the middle. Please disregard the white sloped 1x3 bricks or lack-there-of; they are only place fillers."
