While looking for inspiration I happened upon this nifty gadget. The image stuck with me, and I built a quick and (very) dirty mini model to see how it might look. I liked what I saw, and I've been working on this for a couple days now.
Please disregard the blue on the docking ring (the eyepiece in the "reference" pic). It will either be green or black, depending on part availability. The engine is also very conceptual. I am happy with the cone part, but would like to avoid using the wheel if at all possible. I have also put a hidden cannon on the side, just behind the green stripes.

Wait, so you're making a ship out of it? You get inspiration from a lot of things!

That looks really cool! It's also great to see you working on other things besides micro-MOCs! Smile

I made quite a bit of progress last night, had a nasty thunderstorm, but thankfully the power stayed on. I copied the hull design for the other side, and connected that so I can see its full size. I also started adding an interior (long time since I did one of those). The docking ring design has been radically changed(it is now similar to the front of the ucs tantive IV), and the engine has doubled in size, while keeping the same technique. I've got some play features I want to add(like a removable roof to see the afore-mentioned interior), which is going to make things difficult, but I'll see how it goes.

I've lengthened the body by 4 studs, and have added a turret and greebles(not really visible here) along the right side. I'm working on getting more detail on the left side. The engine has been enlarged, and the docking ring redone and finished. The docking ring also doubles with a playable boarding ramp. I'm also trying to make the interior as practical as possible adding an engine compartment and bed area. Prisoner containment and hopefully a cargo area will follow, but I'll see how it goes.

I would like suggestions for the interior, and external details along the left side. I already have a hidden ion cannon on that side, but behind it there is an empty 8-10 stud by 4 stud space. I have an idea or two I might try(like a projecting missile or engine pod), but suggestions are most welcome.
Here are some pictures of the back and the mini model I used for help on the shape.

This will probably be my last big project and contest before going off to college. Waaa!

Ok I have to finish it this week, and all I have left is the bottom. I want to put some retractable landing gear on, but I am mysteriously stumped on how to do that. If anyone knows of some cool landing gear designs for me to draw from I would really appreciate it.
