January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
_Publius_ (from Flickr) and I are doing a Display Window at Sherway Gardens Mall (Tornoto) this January. This is my part of the collaboration/WIP. I still have some minor adjustments and details to attend to. _Publius_ is making two small Alien Conquest style fighters and a hover tank/walker body harvester. I would have preferred to made the alien stuff myself. But he asked to the Alien stuff so I didn't mind taking the larger part of the MOC but with the less interesting aspects.

I LOVE the car! IT IS AWESOME! Sorry I am "spamming the caps" but I love it so much! It is original yet good looking! Amazing Moc too.
Re: January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
The tower structure is well done. I'm guessing the guy below it in the middle has a flame thrower which is pretty rad.

Yep.
"Oh nice lasers! Eat fire *itches!"

I don't know why you called this part of the MOC less interesting, because I think it's still pretty cool.Rook wrote:_Publius_ (from Flickr) and I are doing a Display Window at Sherway Gardens Mall (Tornoto) this January. I really like the little rover you have there! And I am sure you are limited for space in this thing and that is the reason but those roads are narrow.

Re: January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
Yeah I could have gone bigger on the roads. I know the classic scale is 4 studs wide for cars and now TLG is doing mainly 6 studs with the occasionally 8 studs. I just chose 6 studs because of space like you said. This MOC splits into 4 sections to allow for easy transport and installment. So I did also choose the road width based on dividing points of the MOC. Never the less if Alien Conquest is on again for round 2 in 2012 I might have to make a +96 x +96 MOC of an Alien Conquest battle.
Re: January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
Ok so _Publius_ is still going the Alien Harvester and 2 Fighters. Last night I decided rather that working on "the other" project that I'd play around and work on it another day. So I made these for the fun of it. They won't be on display at Sherway, but I thought I'd finish sharing the original concept. Hopefully I’ll have some pictures to add next week of what we actually put up this Saturday.

Love it! The angles on the harvester pods are awesome. The small gunships/fighters are excellent also.

Second shot is awesome. Really like the way you connected the windscreen with the arms. The mudguards in purple with that slight angle is excellent.

The backpacks on the ADU troops are simple but awesome none the less!
Re: January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
To be honest I would have like to have seen a more detailed and well constructed build coming from someone like you. I don't mean to come off harsh and sound mean, but (in my opinion) the idea behind showcasing mocs in a display window is to portray to children and adults alike that Lego can transcend the stereotype of stacked blocks atop one another into an organic and complex build that leaves the viewer wondering how to recreate certain details and techniques by going ahead and playing around on their own.
I do like however that you are collabing with other builders it's one of the most enjoyable and educating experiences one can have in our hobby. The barricade you've got there is pretty fantastic and if duplicated on a larger scale I'm sure would be even more impressive! Great use of those beam pieces! I also enjoyed the typical Rook easter eggs such as the dude on the skateboard going out into battle haha.

Re: January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
Totally understand. This being my first time leaving my Lego in someone else's care for a month was a little unsettling to say the least. I wanted to build some that was nice but that wasn’t going to cost me +$1000 to replace if lost, stolen, or damaged. I focused on using common pieces and pieces that were on PaB, and Minifigures that could be easily purchased in the store at that moment. I also really wanted to make kids think about building large scale battles, hopefully increasing sales. As far as my usual style of work I’d rather withhold that for Conventions. That being said this is my first public display, who knows how I’ll feel about this in a year after several more public events.

Pretty tight fit. Looks like maybe another 2 studs wider would have been to much.

Hey they say 15x20x23.
So I went 14.5ish by 19.5ish by about 13. (Plenty of head room. )

This looks pretty awesome. I think I like the mini fighters you made better, and I like your hovertank too, but I like your friend's claw on his tank.

Well very impressed with my ability to hide myself in this one! No one seems to have spotted the random black tower (with a coffee mug ) sticking out of grey fence.
Re: January Display [Collaboration/WIP/Completed]
Oh that's what that was...I thought it looked out of place.

Si-MOCs picture of it is the best angle you can get to try to see it. And he didn't even notice.
