Baktoid A-1z SPAW
Datafile - A-1z SPAW
The latest creation from the Baktoid Armor Workshops, in their contract with the Trade Federation and it's greater alliegence, the Condeferacy of Independant Systems, the A-1z Self-Propelled Artillery Walker (SPAW). This fully autonomous droid acts as a mobile artillery platform, with far greater mobility and hull-down capacity than that of the previous HAG Cannons seen during the Blockade of Naboo, or the ADC-mounted guns of the 13th Mechanized Infantry. With it's specialiy designed legs, it can be deployed directly from orbit, the panels being formed into a shell shape that will drive into the ground. Gravity (or on worlds where there is a lack thereof, implanted repulsors), can then pull the walker down onto one side, where it then will fold out and deploy. The various configurations of the pincer legs allow it to move into many different hull-down postions.
Using an augmented artifical intellegence borrowed from the gunners of the HAG, the SPAW is able to take fire-support coordinates from a forward observer (droid or sentient), calculate the desired effect, evaluate wind and air conditions, note the effect that gravity and the coriolis effect will have on it's rounds, determine the optimum firing solution, load, orient, fire, shunt, and reload all within the time that it takes to recite this paragraph quickly. This greately reduces ToT (time on target), and all but eliminates the need for FDCs (fire direction centers) and fire-support teams, which streamline the artillery chain, making it less liable to be dismantled by surgical enemy strikes.
Fig 1: High-Altitude Drop-In Deployment
Fig 2: One of 45 different hull-down postions programmed into the droid.
(Note: Really poseable. I'm not endulging in a spot of hyperbole when I say that the droid has 45 different ways of hunkering down.)
Re: Baktoid A-1z SPAW
Hmm that looks pretty cool. Still, make everything grey or add some more brown. The legs are only brown and the body is all grey, which looks ugly.

That's really good! I like how it can fold into different shapes.

OK, that's an interesting design, but I must admit that the leg idea, although compatibly pleasing, looks somewhat odd when standing up, if you follow me.

Pretty sweet, simple, effective design. I like how it's got different ways to pose!
Re: Baktoid A-1z SPAW
Very cool! I love how you made it look like classic CIS, when there was no blue.
Best entry so far!

Interesting...
Not sure if I like it or not, kinda reminds me of a mini Artillery Gun (CIS version of course)...

Re: Baktoid A-1z SPAW
The legs look way to close together to me.

Re: Baktoid A-1z SPAW
The legs are a little close together, but that's a really sweet fold-up design you've got there

Of course that's what it will remind you of, because it is that !

Problem with my pieces... I just don't have the right stuff for a good walking mechanism .
