541st Armored Assault Legion
The 541st Legion was defined by Colonel Turaki Kaier as "the embodiment of combined arms and mobility" (Meroe 103). Using fluid, rapidly conducted flying column maneuvers, supported with thorough CAP sorties, the 541st is frequently employed with the breaking of sieges and establishing of beachheads - overwhelming their foes with lightning-quick assaults before those who they are aligned against can regroup. The 541st consistently provided the Grand Army with decisive actions across multiple fronts, with notable actions at Arkania, Duros, Deralia, and Bandomeer (Reports 23).
The astute observer would notice that the 541st does not have a Jedi officer in command of their unit. The 541st is instead under the direct jurisdiction of a Non-Clone Officer, who in turn reports to the Corps' ranking CO. After the death of their Jedi officer during an action in the Outer Rim, the topic of a new Jedi officer was left to slip, and the men of the 541st quickly came to enjoy not being lead about by the "pretentious, glow-bat wielding, freaks", long before the Anti-Jedi sentiment of the New Order (Kaier 55). GAR Command even noticed that the Legion is more efficient, and as a result they began to question the command presence of certain Jedi officers. These inquiries eventually reached some notable names, such as Skywalker, Mundi, Tano, and Akrah; shaking the concept of Jedi infallibility to it's core (Commission 9).
Field Command
The men in charge of the 541st's Operations, while loathe to admit so, were reported to be some of the most colorful characters in the Grand Army. Colonel Turaki Kaier, and his Clone Commander "Ied" - aside from being genial and insightful gentlemen - both firmly believed in the principle of leading from the front. On innumerable occasions, this belief resulted in a variety of incidents with their superiors, at the least, or has brought them close to their deaths, at the most. Aside from it all, Kaier proudly averred throughout the war that "[he] refuse[s] to take any risks [his] men would not" (Kaier 45)
"What's he at!?"
Turaki Kaier was born into a affluent family of vineyard owners, on the pastoral farming world of Ansion. He, as a child, enjoyed the study of language - particularly Galactic Basic - and eventually found his past-time in debate. He attended the Chandrillian Institute of Law, graduating valedictorian, and served as a legal adviser for the Kaier Wineries. When the Republic went to war with the Stark Commercial Combine, Kaier decided to avoid the draft and enlist instead as a officer - enrolling in the Academy at Carida and performing exceedingly well. Approached by the Tarkin Paramilitary, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal, and saw action in and around the Battles at Mount Avos on Quotile. However, Kaier lost his betrothed to the tides of war to "bloody Marcus D'Amador, a Equinox sniper at the time", and once discharged from the service after the conflict's conclusion, lived out the rest of his youth as a bachelor - managing the family business from the estate on Ansion (Kaier 13).
Upon the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Kaier at age fifty-one was reactivated and assigned a commission within the 541st Legion as a Lt. Commander. Only several months into the start of the Clone Wars, Kaier was forced to accept command of the Legion with the rank of Colonel. Finally being able to apply his revolutionary tactics, Kaier's radical restructuring of the 541st lead it to far greater success than it had achieved prior to the Jedi Officer's death. When Kaier and his men refused to accept a replacement General, the Jedi Order had the legion inconspicuously bumped to the back of the procurement list as a sign of disapproval for their insubordination in this matter. Kaier, enraged, used some of his private wealth to in turn bribe Rothana officials, buy contracts for custom weapons, and keep his force's equipment and vehicles operational - an action of "blatant defiance" on his part (Meroe 119).
Kaier would go on to see action on Arkania, swiftly recapturing the seceded world and in so confronting Marcus D'Amador - now a General in Equinox (allied with the CIS) - bringing him much needed closure in the death of his wife. Actions on Ansion and Bandomeer, along with a string of successful "freshening" actions on stagnant siege-locked worlds would mark the later years of the war.
Kaier, remained a studious, polite, decisive man throughout the entirety of the conflict, these attributes affecting the clones under his command. Many, in fact, emulated his Coruscanti accent and conducted themselves equally as noble as he. Kaier saw that his men learned flag-folding, military decorum, gun-salutes, proper grammar - all neglected in their flash training - and established a powerful stigma against debauchery, racism, xenophobia, swearing, uncleanliness and rowdiness (Meroe 521). As a result, the 541st quickly became the politest legion in the GAR - best dressed and best conducted - albeit viewed by their comrades outside as a bunch of snobs.
"I'mah bloody grim fable, with a bloody unhappah end! So you better grab yer milk'n cookies, 'cause it's stor-ey time, lad!"
CC-1145/80 - or, Ied; as he came to be called after a close encounter with a Separatist DX-10 explosive device - was a fairly normal officer. Fairly normal, for all of two attributes. Firstly, as a member of the Alpha batch of Clone Command units, CC-1145/80 had his genetic soup muddled up ever so slightly by the Kamonian geneticists. This resulted in his ability to assimilate language being overcooked massively, and as a result Ied found himself gifted with the skill to learn accents and foreign tongues with ease. His Northern Corellian instructor, one of many, had the greatest influence on Ied - and as such, in a way to establish an identity for himself - Ied took up the haughty fourty-year-old tactician's thick accent.
Secondly, Ied was vehemently anti-Jedi. He attributed most of his dislike of the Order to their wanton use of the Force to "influence our bloody minds, overriding our inborn tactical reasoning - getting us killed" (Kaier 97). Kaier wrote of Ied's sentiments on this matter extensively in his memoirs.
"Our officer, prior to his death, was thoroughly contemptible. He had a incomparably large self-superiority complex, and when combined with the senility of a Jedi Master in his waning years - this made for a disagreeable personality. Ied spoke loudly and angrily - and I recall quite violently - of how this Jedi forced his men into charges and inadvisable maneuvers. Upon this officer's death, Ied took his cape, clasped it around his neck, and wore it through the war, even as a Stormtrooper, to remind him of the folly of the Force. Alexis [, my sister], was passionately devoted to changing his mindset - perhaps just wanting an excuse to talk to him, but regardless averring strongly that the Force had good in it, for all the ills thereof (Kaier 97-98).
Regardless of his status as self-proclaimed "Forcie" bigot, Ied still maintained a friendly relationship with Alexis Kaier. Ied, in his speech at Colonel Kaier's funeral, admitted that Turaki proved a father figure to him - steering him along the best possible course. As such, Ied was very polite, very astute, however he had something of a bi-polar streak and was exceptionally fond of explosives and tanks. CC-1145/80 was the de-facto commander of the 541st's Armored Elite divisions, this massive allocation of responsibly an affirmation on Kaier's part of Ied's competence and skill.
"Sir, if you go down there and get killed - the 541st has just lost it's ENTIRE command structure."
"Well, then you get to be the first Clone Colonel, lad."
"As if that job looked very fun... Sir!"
CC-1146/80 or Captain Trek - for he was generally was an infantry-type soldier - a pod brother of Commander Ied, was the archetypal Clone officer. No ambition, very rational, very sensible, lacking boldness but thoroughly logical in all he did. He was one of the four other Captains in the 541st, each governing a regiment of troops. Trek oversaw Aurek Regiment, and when he was forced to accept command of the joint Infantry/Breakthrough battle-group used to screen the rescue of Colonel Kaier during the Arkania action, Trek showed how competent he was at command duties. His diversionary attack actually engaged and defeated a large portion of the Separatist body, those units still reeling from the 541st's holding action at Trade City.
After this operation, he became an adjutant Captain on the promotion of Colonel Kaier, and his former position was filled. While not pleased at being taken from the role for which he had been trained since age one to learn a new one - Trek, regardless, did his duties admirably. Always feeling the third wheel between Ied and Kaier, Trek never did bond well with the duo. As such, Trek primarily associated with his former command - the Skirmisher Infantry battalions - and the former fiance of deceased Lieutenant Dmitri Meehan - Natasha "Tascha" Fower - when not on duty. Trek would request discharge from Colonel Kaier at the end of the war, and he was granted that and set up nicely by his former CO with a comfortable home on Ansion, becoming a trainer of the local sector militia in his waning years.
Battlefield Tactics
The 541st was unrecognized for the breakthroughs they made in mounted assaults. While their dangerous yet effective tank desante tactics were incredible, most other Legions within the GAR simply viewed them as prima donnas, envious for the large part that they remained a relatively coherent fighting force - instead of being split up as were other legions. Their work, as a result, was only missed when it wasn't there, and the men of the 541st became increasingly isolationist and elitist. Most outside commanders never inquired as to how they managed to subdue the enemy so quickly or maintain such high morale.
Kaier had seen the folly of infantry-based attacks at the battle of Mount Avos, and spent some of his free time, as a civilian, theorizing how to wage a "lightning war" (Meroe 105). Kaier developed what Imperial forces today call the "flying column", as well as establishing some very well known flanking maneuvers and force dispositions. It was not uncommon for Kaier to overwhelm his enemies and double envelop them; however, in so doing, overextending his lines, and being forced into several defensive actions as the enemy counterattacked. The 541st became adept at either "going hard" or "standing fast". There was no middle ground for them.
The tactical dismount was completely revolutionized by Kaier (Meroe 554). Armored Elite infantry would ride on with tanks, providing in-close fire support and anti-infantry capacity. Using the tank as cover and their own battle armor as protection, the AE troops were well covered in what would normally be an exposed situation. AE troops were the first men to attack a enemy position. Because they were transported primarily on the TX-130/c, many Separatist and Equinox field commanders were shocked to see that what appeared to be a formation of fifty tanks had over 200, well-trained infantry units with them. The tanks provided cover from automatic fire - rooting out emplaced repeaters and snipers; while the infantry worked ahead - disabling anti-tank emplacements and killing off anti-armor personnel.
As the tanks spearheaded the assault, infantry transports - particularly the M-206 - would follow behind with the larger infantry column, functioning as self-propelled artillery units as well. Artillery was now joined with the Infantry and Armor . As the TX-130/c Battlegroups overextended in their rapid advance, the infantry would solidify their advances, mopping up resistance and taking down hold-outs that the 130's hovered on past. The 541st also had an excellent ARC-170 air group - Kai'Tok Flight - who provided much-needed close air support. The 541st Airborne, and their LAMRC Striker gunships rounded out this "Air" section of the 541st doctrine of "Combined Arms: Infantry, Armor, Artillery, and Air."
On a much broader scale, the 541st was particularly well known for breaking tough sieges in a matter of weeks. This overwhelming force, at the speed they applied it, baffled many of the orthodox Separatist officers who had drawn their actions into tedious trench battles - perhaps on directive, perhaps just on their stupidity. With their "freshening actions" the 541st deployed rapidly, taking out key Separatist strong-points in a matter of days (Reports 48). Even better, GAR command noted that the 541st was still capable to function as such at half-strength, allowing them to split the Legion in half when needed; doing more work at the same time.
ORBATs (Order of Battle)
The 541st's ORBAT was unlike that of any other Legion. Kaier, seeing the inefficacy of having X many tanks and Y many infantry per this formation and per that formation, instead created formations entirely of individual elements that could be allocated to form battle-groups. Each battalion is comprised homogeneously of similar units. For example, Aurek Regiment (Infantry) has three homogeneous battalions of Skirmisher Infantry (which are of course carried into combat on M-206s, as are all 541st infantry), and one homogeneous battalion analog (or "Line") of AT-RTs in support. This allows Kaier to mix and match his battle-groups, pulling from separate pools of non-committed elements to form coherent fighting forces. Because their plans call for so much fluidity, pre-assembling battle-groups (as the conventional doctrine calls for), would be in-efficacious and tiresome. The way Kaier goes about making battlegroups, is comparable to "playing a trading card game"; he has orderly sets of alike units, and he draws on them to form "decks" with which he can fight his opponent (Kaier 103).

Arkania: Operation Frozen Liberties
Arkania is a mineral rich world, located in the Perave System. It's blisteringly cold, and largely inhospitable. With only four major cities, it's mostly undeveloped cliffs, tundra, and ice flats. The 541st was deployed here, after the Separatists began mining operations to fuel their war machine.
Ansion: Operation Vendetta
The 541st was deployed to this temperate, farming world for refitting and resupply. Colonel Turaki Kaier would relish the time he could spend at home, after the terrors of Arkania. However, a new commander of the 13th Separatist Mechanized Infantry had a score to settle with the 541st. And Ansion would be in her sights.
