Airborne Trooper and Commander Cody helmets
I will put this out there to vent and also keep up my resolve to get these finished.
As some of you know I enjoy modeling and casting custom SW helmets. Although I only have one to my name (Bacara, Heavy Troooper), I was very happy with the results. It did however take me a year (time here and there) to complete a workable cast.
I am now working on a Commander Cody and Airborne Trooper helmet. That is to say I was until I saw the new Cody figure. I still think there will be a place for a Phase II Cody but I want to wiat and see how the new one looks before I start working on Cody again.
That leaves me with the Airborne Trooper helmet. Up until last night I would say I was doing very well. I was very happy with the detail especially the front rebreather. For some reason when I work on one piece for too long and end up fixing the same parts I scrap it and start again. So at about 9:45 last night after working since October on it I scraped my Airborne helmet. The good news is that when I do this I usually end up with a better product and the process goes quicker. I am about 25-30% into the molding process again and I wish that I had taken pictures of my last attempt but it is going well.
So there it is. I will update as needed.
Thanks for listening to my rant and allowing me to get rid of some negative energy.

This sounds like a great project! I love your bacara helmet, but I would rather see an airborne trooper or a cody helmet actually. I'm not much of a bacara fan. It's good to see that you're working on something!

Ys, they are awesome. What material do you use to make those helmets?

Gah! You stole my idea. Well, you didn't steal it...but those are two WIPs I've had for about 3 months. I'm just really slow..and a perfectionist.
Good luck!
Good luck!

First - I first mold a hard copy using sculpey around a clone helmet.
Second - I create a rubber mold using Alumilite product
Third - I use the rubber mold to turn out helmets using Alumilite casting resin
Fourth - I create decals to highlight areas (I also use paint).
If anyone needs any help just let me know. Warning this can be an expensive and time consuming hobby. If you can get it to work however it rocks.
