Indeed!
So, a film about the American Revolution, eh? Don't forget to mention Common Sense!

Re: Boston Harbor
Thanks, I was quite happy with those designs as well.Thunder-blade wrote:Well done. I really like the roofing of the buildings!
Yup! And I wish I could, but I have a deadline to meet and I barely got in what I wanted. It mainly focuses on the tariffs that angered the colonists and their reactions. And there's a bit of Star Wars in there, too.Chaotic Good wrote:Indeed!

Ah..
Well, to return to the creation, the lighting is intriguing. Is that building really red? It's not an often-used colour for buildings..

Re: Boston Harbor
It is, yes. I don't have many dark colors (Dark green, blue, etc.) that I would've used for buildings, so I had to use red. It's supposed to be a brick schoolhouse under construction.Chaotic Good wrote:Ah..

Re: Boston Harbor
Sort of, yes. I was originally just doing it for fun, but when I told my history teacher he said it could be extra credit. Considering I don't test as well as I'd like, this would bump me up to an "A" if I get it done before the term ends. Which is before Thanksgiving.Thunder-blade wrote:A deadline? Re: Boston Harbor
Very nice! My only complaint is the building on the far left. The walls are too plain. Perhaps some windows would suffice.

Very nice. I love the roofs, and I can't wait for the film.

Well that's cool. Doing a fun project for extra credit is always awesome.
Re: Boston Harbor
That is a really nice job. If I could build legos for extra credit that would be awesome. You should get or make a ship and reinact the Boston Tea Party.

Re: Boston Harbor
It is a nice town. Like TB said the roofing is cool. But the red school house is so so, it could use more of a birck school house look. Hope you can get it done before Thanksgiving.

Re: Boston Harbor
I think the buildings could have used some tiling...Or more greebs, oh and another boat would be great.
Re: Boston Harbor
That little tree in there doesn't seem to fit, but a little flower pot or bush would be better.

Re: Boston Harbor
You should definitely play Shipping Up To Boston by the Dropkick Murphy's if you finish the video. Great job on the scene. It's very rare that we see an American Revolutionary Era moc.
Re: Boston Harbor
Well, looking from the first picture the picture looks like it has too much exposure, and all those studs do look a bit tiring but then again it is a big build and the idea is great.
(It would be awesome to see some small vignettes of this time period)

Re: Boston Harbor
Yes, that's the tavern where most of the film takes place. If I had made windows, I would've needed a huge set outside the main interior one. Does that make sense? Sorry if it doesn't.Very nice! My only complaint is the building on the far left. The walls are too plain. Perhaps some windows would suffice.
Yeah, if I had the pieces to do it I would've. Thanks!mazz wrote:It is a nice town. Like TB said the roofing is cool. But the red school house is so so, it could use more of a birck school house look. Hope you can get it done before Thanksgiving.
@CommanderKill and Legorev: Haha, thanks for the songs, guys! I've never heard either of those. I might use Shipping Up to Boston.
Well, this wasn't a very advanced period of time. America was still expanding, and more thought was on freedom and ideas rather than architecture and other tangible things. And adding another boat would only make the scene a lot more crowded that it needs to be. But thank you!CloneCommandoXion wrote:I think the buildings could have used some tiling...Or more greebs, oh and another boat would be great.
Back then, they either chopped the trees down or left them as they were, I'd imagine. America was more about natural beauty, which is why I used a tree. I guess I would either get rid of the tree or keep it as it is.Sergeant Macaroni wrote:That little tree in there doesn't seem to fit, but a little flower pot or bush would be better.
Well, this is a movie set first and a MoC second. I have a lot of people and horses walking around, and I needed studs to do that. As for the exposure, I guess that was too much Photoshoppin'.Darth Yoda wrote:Well, looking from the first picture the picture looks like it has too much exposure, and all those studs do look a bit tiring but then again it is a big build and the idea is great.

Indeed! If I ever get some more time away from school I'll have to try some more.
Thanks for all the comments and critique, guys! You've got some really nice ideas, but it seems to me that most of what you guys think should be changed would work if this was set in modern times. What I considered when I was building this was the fact that this wasn't at the height of architectural genius, or to make it look like a pretty scene in terms of SNOT. I do appreciate the feedback, though!

Re: Boston Harbor
I'm not so sure about the green/red. make the roofs brown, the buildings look right otherwise. Maybe a brick texture. IMO, it'd seem more accurate. Now, I'm being nitpicky because I live about 2 miles away from Boston Harbour, and there are some buildings from that era still around.

Re: Boston Harbor
Maybe use More Than a Feeling for a drama type part in the film. Otherwise, use clips from Shippin' Up to Boston. Youtube's a great place to look up songs.

You may want to fix that. Anyways back on topic I agree about the roofs, they should be brown now that I look at it.
