The Project: "Scaling the Cliffs"
The 4th part of the Project Me and CFaie have been covering the past few months. This rounds theme was Normandy beach landing and I picked The scaling of the cliffs at Point du Hoc.
Early in the Morning of D-day 1944, A german battery housement was assaulted by the 2nd Ranger Battalion. It was their task to scale the cliffs at Point du Hoc (which lies between Ohama and Utah beach) and destroy the germany artillery place there, due to being able to make massive amounts of damage to the landing force. The cliffs where successfully scaled and the guns destroyed.
Well, I picked this scene, because first off all, I've been there before. It's amazing, there are large bombing craters all over the place. I think this is some of the better work I've done in these projects, and enjoyed making it. Credit to CFaie for the Sandbag technique.
Click here for the Flickr Set & MORE PICTURES (I'm too lazy to post them all here atm...)
Enjoy!

Very good, looks quite intense. Wish I could go to Europe and see places like this for myself.

I like it! Don't you think the tree on top of the cliff should have some leaves though?

This is one of your best! I love it!

Re: The Project: "Scaling the Cliffs"
Thanks all!
AOS: Yeah, you go to alot of places with the Boy scouts in Europe...
Daisy: Naw, it's dead.
Anyway..I was kinda hoping this would be a bit more alive, but whatever. :/

Now you know how I feel. Remember, the majority of members here either don't care, or are clonetards and disregard anything that's not "OMG CLOAN TROOPWEHRS KILL TEH BATTLE DROIDZ! PEW PEW PEW PWE!"
It's a good vig though. I commented on Flickr.
Re: The Project: "Scaling the Cliffs"
Looks really good except for the "dead" tree. That of course and, IT'S NOT STAR WARS!
Re: The Project: "Scaling the Cliffs"
Wow this is really good, the cliff is very well done though I was disappointed to see that boat at the bottom, I think you could of done something better with that.

Rangers used rubber boats for this particular mission.

Oh ok, I don't really know stuff about war.
Though couldn't you make one of your own rubber boats?

Very nice job! Great cliff wall and 'effects', the greebles on and around the cliff. Great minifigures and good historical connection!

Re: The Project: "Scaling the Cliffs"
I lost my book on this stuff. Dam.
My favorite part about this is the men climbing, their ropes, and the techniques used, like men falling. I also love the bullets flying into the sand and water. Perfection!

Re: The Project: "Scaling the Cliffs"
@Pizza: Yeah, it's true...MOCs here at CABG get less and less appreciation each day.
@Rook: Duh. Of course it's not star wars.
@FC: Yeah, like Faie said, they used rubberboats...Higgins Boats would've made too much noise, alerting the germans very early on. And how am I supposed to make one?
@CC: Thanks.
@CKill: It's called the Internet. Yeah, I really like the bullet richotes...
Also, what you don't notice, is A LOT of sticky tac/white tac/blue tac was used in this...the sandbags, holding the guys too the cliffs, etc.
