Wow for real?
Ok looks maybe a MOD locked it because it doesn't say they sent a PM.
Usually I lock them and PM members because an ADMIN is needed to activate your Guild status.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Here's few comments from the Council Room.
His mocs are blocky and sloppy.
...his photo quality is that... low...
Uh no. Looks like most are alternates from the clone walker...
Star fighter - might have been the only saving grace here until I saw the back of it. All the rest I said 'no' to.

Your MOCs probaly sucked.
Pick something you want to build, starfighter, tank, helicopter, etc. then search Flickr for inspiration. Pick 3-5 creations that are amazing and study them. Spend at least a week building, trying out different ways to do something. For my starfighter I spent 6 hours making 3 different wing designs, but only chose the best one. Always refer to your inspiration when building, it helps. When you think you're finished ask yoursefl this: Is there any details I can add which would make the MOC look much better? Is there a bit which looks wrong/odd? Are the colours right? (Try to only use 1-2 main colours and 1-2 highlight colours that work well together.)
Re: New Member Questions Thread
@Tac: Thanks for all the advice, of course I don't have many Legos, and I can't buy more, but I'll try again.
@ROOK: I am working on the picture quality.
@Both: Thanks for that help.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Maybe there should be an ap response thread?
Here is why, as I browsed the forum as a non-guildie I learned what people look at when looking at MOCs.
As I built mine I said... hmmm what would lego rev say about this.... scrap rebuild.... hmmm what would TD say about this? Scrap rebuild.... Hmmm what would TAC say about this? Scrap add more bley .... until I finally got my first MOC done.
A few things to know about MOCing though... don't go with your first build. Always build and tear down till its as close as perfect as you think you can get then scrap again.
If you are doing something that has reference pics then after building it look for some reference pics and see if it resembles it.
Another piece of advice that a very smart Halo Kitty gave me while I was building my first real MOC, and should answer the "I dont have enough bricks problem" build better not bigger. Some times it is better to condense your idea to a segment that you can dedicate all your greebles and creativity to then a large loosely designed idea.
I believe if we had a app response thread with some feedback the way you posted it Rook it would give others the chance to not make the same mistake. Though it may open a whole other door of unforeseen problems:P so I don't know.
I just know for me I applied whatever criticism anyone got to my own MOC as I built and destroyed it.
The only detail I did once and for last was the tiles. Its a pain in the neck to remove a whole floor of tiles so I always placed everything where I though I would lay it down and tiled around it and used plates to ground the other stuff down.
Just my 2 cents, I am just a baby builder but I though this might be useful to someone who cares.
Also you pros, you can correct me if I am wrong in anything I stated.
Disclaimer: The thoughts and feelings expressed above do not reflect the thoughts of the CAG as a whole but only of the writer and intended solely to aid new builder increase in their skills.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Exactly. Build until you're pleased with it. Not until you think it looks good, but until you're pleased with it. If you don't have a specific pieces, work around it, find a different piece and try using it, etc.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
Haha, scrap and add more bley!
I did make a feedback thread, but it kinda died.

I thought you'd like that.
Also for photos, usually with the right light any camera will do. So I would recommend making one of these lightboxes. I just finished building mine last night and looking forward to seeing if there are any differences in my pictures.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
We haven't done Applications Thread because most people don't want to hear how bad they are. It's kinder to just say keep studying. Instead of; "Your MOCs suck." Giving helpful advice takes effort. Most people don't tend to do that.
Why these 2 asked in this thread rather then sending me a PM I don't know. But I figured if they want to ask publicly they can get their answer back publicly.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Maybe you should have an advice committee:P though if I were anyone struggling Id go to the Rook's classes to a better MOC threads...
hmmmm... There just has to be a way to better, efficiently offer help to those who genuinely want it.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Yeah we've had several failed attempts to start areas like that. The tendency tends to lean towards let's sodomize the newbies. And then they get locked down.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
@ Rook: thats not my latest app though. I've already got feedback on that one...

Can MOC's be designed on the computer for apps, depending on the program?

I've seen a few members post WIPs and MOCs made from LDD though, so I think you just can't use it for you're guild app.

Yeah, that is what I have seen, like in Dutch's Pods he made.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
What I don't get is that LDD is like building them in real life. I don't see why guild apps can't allow LDD MOC's. It's like building them, except it's on a computer. But yet, I can design them on LDD, buy my model, build it and put it up for my app. See what I'm saying?

Or you can build it and see if you can bricklink the parts since It may be cheaper.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
