Post Apoc Town
My second installment in the post apoc theme is a town. Once again, this is a WIP because of the great suggestions I can get from all you MOCers. Enjoy, and Criticize the crap out of this thing, so I can get better!

Re: Post Apoc Town
Looks nice, but just a bit too crowded, make it a bit bigger, and more spaced out, but other than that, it looks nice!

Re: Post Apoc Town
Too much stuff going on, it makes it hard to see. Try and make a bit less stuff everywhere.
Re: Post Apoc Town
I think It's kind of bright for a post-apoc town. You should make the red building and orange figs a bit more dark and dreary . I like the tent, but I'm not sure about the tubes sticking out of the building. I would also make the building tops and street smooth, it just looks better. Other than that, it looks like a good start!

The street is SNOT.... Yeah, I'm going to scrounge up some tiles for the roofs, and I wasn't too sure about the tube from the building either. The orange figs are supposed to be some sort of military group... still working on that story.
Re: Post Apoc Town
I don't like the building, just too plain, and as for the zombies, it looks like you just slapped random legs and torsos.

Which building do you not like? The zombies were pretty much slapped together torsos and legs. What, you think zombies care about fashion?
Re: Post Apoc Town
They should at least get gray heads, like Vader's.667thLegion wrote:Which building do you not like? The zombies were pretty much slapped together torsos and legs. Aside from the red building and some studs, this seems to be coming along well.

Bad photography, confusing layout/too much stuff goign on, very random colors, and mostly just bricks stacked ofn top of each other.
IMO, hardly guild worthy.

Did you even look at the gallery of pictures? As it is a WIP, you can't really say "guild worthy" or not yet, but I respect your opinion. Rather than completely trashing me though, do you have any ideas on how to make it better?

I did not see that there was a gallery, but I still stand by what I said.667thLegion wrote:Hazard with a Glove wrote:Bad photography, confusing layout/too much stuff goign on, very random colors, and mostly just bricks stacked ofn top of each other.

Anyway. It seems like you went for the idea of random chaos. And, although, that is what an Apocalyptic enviroment is, and what the Lego theme usually seems to be, this is not the case. Apoc builds take organization an dplaning.
Part 1
First off, the building in general. It's a bunch of tan bricks, I can tell the look you were going for, the destroyed apoc look, bu it really doesn't seems like that. It's messing the effect of a ounce fine and normal terrain, turned into a chaotic war/waste zone.
Secondly, Parts of the building don't follow the design or w/e of the building. Ie, the Lego Universe sign and the pipe. Both have nothign to do with the architecture of the building, pipe seems pointless, why would this one pipe just be sticking out of the build 4 feet, with nothing else similar to it? Was there one segment of of PVC placed in the building when it was being built? And the sign is in perfect condition, unlike everything else.
Third, and this goes along with everything else I have said, actually. The door and windows area seems so clean/undamaged and does not follow the look of the building. This area is modern, bley, and nice looking, while everything else is just a wreck of random tan blocks. But, this isn't to say everything should look like a wreck, or be destroyed, some parts of objects or structures can be intact, but when you just make sections of the building so off, it looks off. IMO, I like the door area. Try making the rest f the building with a bley/light bley design, and tan highlights.
Part 2
Alrighty, to start with, is something similar to what I've already said. You are using the brick wall technique to make brick walls, although this is not bad, and I think it should probably stay in the build, you did it so that it looks like a box with walls of bricks. Just a box, not recognizable a building or some sort. Try adding things that would make more than a box, and I don't mean thing's like doors or windows or sings. Try thinking outside of the box (no pun intended). Like changes to shape, with curves. Or if you were to add the obvious stuff (not to say they shouldn't be there, they most certainly should), do it with creativity. Maybe make the door with a stud or half stud indent into the building, or maybe a brick higher than the ground, with steps leading to the door. Etc.
Secondly, the sign. Sorry, not much to say about it other than that the technique used is just an ineffective and rather unappealing. I really have not found a really good way to make a sign, unless you have decals. I really can't help, but try to take that thing out. It's an eye sore.
Part 3 (no pic, it's mulitple things that can be seen throughout the gallery)
My next thing is, the Zombies. They're just random parts but together in an ugly manner. There are many many ways to go about making zombies, this being one of the worst.
Then, there is the numerous and abundant studs. Cover them up, but in a way that won't make it look even more unorganized. Again, even though it's an Apoc Moc, it needs to have organization. Maybe tak out those plates, and replace them with tiles. Maybe light bley ones to make a side walk, at least in the area that would be the side walk. While the areas that would be empty lots could have brown plates, with some studs place strategically , as well as grass pieces. I see that you already have some in one spot, but directly in front of them is big patches of black, the same color as the road. That's just generally confusing.
I could keep going, but I am beginning to loose my train of though. I hope it helped.

IMO, lose the red, and make it bigger.

Re: Post Apoc Town
To be blunt, I agree with everything Hazard pointed out. I'm just not liking this one. I would like to also add to lose the official lego tent. Either make some sort of brick built one or just not even bother to put it in there at all.

I have to agree with Hazard on the White/Tan bricks, just too messy. And am I the only one who noticed the way too small road?
I mean c'mon man! I know this is a WIP, but your a guild member, and I have seen a whole lot better from you.

Re: Post Apoc Town
Update! Guess what? Everyone disliked what I had, and the only thing I really liked myself was the telephone polls, so I destroyed it! YEAAH!! So here is what I'm replacing it with. Although after here, I've completely lost what to do next. Suggest things please! Tell me what to put where, I.E. : Buildings, cars, hordes of zombies, dead hippos, etc! Anything goes! Also, the road isn't attached there, so it can be moved almost anywhere on the baseplate.

Re: Post Apoc Town
Much better, so far.
I like the idea for hippo in there. Like a zombie hippo.
and I'd reccomend making the sides of the road higher, and partly messed up.

OMG 667, that road is awesome! I do have 2 tiny nitpicks though. Put some sideways headlight bricks and maybe add some pipes and tile some of the plates, but not all of them.
