Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
As many of you might be already be aware, Will Chapman of BrickArms has been exploring the concept of a modern/sci take on the Sterling SMG (something Star Wars builders might find particularly useful) for some time now. Here is the original version which features a scope and a non-removable magazine:
However, Will recently revisited the design with the new Advanced Sterling SMG prototype:
This updated version does not feature a scope but does have a removable magazine. That magazine can be inserted into any BrickArms accessory with a similar slot (as seen here) and any tabbed accessory (like the Ammo Drum included with the BrickArms MG42) can be attached to the Advanced Sterling SMG. Will is also currently considering designing a longer, curved magazine like used with real like Sterling:
As Will continues to explore this concept, he'd like to know what builders would be most interested in seeing! Is the incorporation of the slot-tab system something you like? Do you prefer the scoped or non-scope version? Ultimately, Will wants to produce a design that the most number of builders will find useful in their building, so any constructive feedback you have will be most appreciated!

Hey, BrickArms has come to CABG.
I would think that a combination of the two (with both scope and magazine attachment) would be cool. Maybe even a detachable scope using a system similar to those used in the CW trooper helmet accessories.

I personally like the original stormtrooper one with the scope more, but having it with the removable magazine would be awesome.
What would be cool though is if the removable clips were sold separately from the gun so that we could just use them on anything instead of having to buy the whole gun to get one.

I think that it is a cool addition to have a magazine, but it would be better if he still kept the scope. He should also make a few of the weapons seen in Star Wars Republic Commando, such as the sniper and anti-armor attachment.
Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
Thanks for the feedback, guys! Please keep it coming!
Let's keep things focused on the Sterling for now. If it turns out to be popular with builders, then other similar items are certainly on option, but we'll just have to see!212th wickedskillz wrote:He should also make a few of the weapons seen in Star Wars Republic Commando, such as the sniper and anti-armor attachment

Think of it as incentive, TD.
Perhaps this can be like the STG-44: The version without the scope comes with minifigs.
[On the subject (or rather off-subject) of Republic Commando Weapons, it would more likely be more popular with fans, mostly for its versatility and looks.]

This is a very hard one for me. My E-11s are one of my favourite guns (Even if they can't hit Luke from 10 metres away ), so I'm extremely fond of the scoped version. It adds an extra little detail I really love on BA, and if you don't like it, you can chop it of and put it on a different gun! Ammo slots, on the other hand, I love. Look at (Purist) minifigures. It's basically taking parts from one figure and putting it on another. Thats partly what LEGO is about. Swapping parts, building what you want. The only time I've ever modded a BA was Darth Yoda's STG-44/Rebel Blaster mod, and even 4 months later I'm still having nightmares. Since I don't like to mod my BA I rely on things like U-Clips, PPSh Ammo drums, MGL ammo drums and of course the 'Slot stuff' to make my BA a little more unique or better suited to the MOC. So far I have ammo chains, MG42 drums, view finders and even a tan sci-fi box. I love using them is different ways to try and create a Jorge-like gun using a box and LMG, or a Wierd War II gun using a MG-42 and a viewfinder and a HLC with a MG-42 drum. My point is, you can create what you want, which is what LEGO's about. That's why this is so hard, it's looks or playability and an easier way to change it. It's a toughie. Since, like many members on this site, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, I'm going to go for the top one.
I've already found some ways to add things to my E-11s, so although an ammo slot would be awesome, I don't really want to sacrifice the Star Wars look. As far as I know, and I don't know much, but I don't think any other BA gun has a scope that looks like this. On a slightly off-topic note, maybe Will could add a removable scope, which came second in this poll.

My only recommendation would be to make the slot shape and size the same as a standard TLG hole. Using either the standard minifigure hand sized hole (Image 1) so that variety items could be inserted in the slot or using the small sized hole that a plume on minifigure helmet fits in (Image 2). Thus increasing the versatility of the weapon and there for hopefully increasing sales.

Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
How about a combination of both, with removable magazine and scope? Just like the M47 shotgun, if you don't want a scope, simply cut it off.

The only problem with that would be that Will would have to update all of his "LMG slot" weapons.
Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
Like Tac said, removing the scope would remove the Starwars feel to this gun and though the slot will give it a more universal use and flexibility, the scope would keep it starwars gun. Since we are on a star wars site I would say keep it as the E-11 BUT for business I think the slotted version is more appropriate.
I personally would want to have some E-11s.

Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
Honestly, I prefer the original E-11 version.
These are two completely different weapons, that I feel should get their own glory. Maybe either both sold, or combined.
I see this would be a difficult task, somehow having a combination of both, but it's the only way to have the great characteristics of both.
While the removable clip is a nice touch, and can be widely used for more than Star Wars, I don't see it as the classic Star Wars gun without the scope.
All in all, both are mega-cool weapons with their different pros! The cons have no affect with either what so ever.
But I just feel the scope is necessary, so version one E-11 gets my vote.
Nice work with both weapons too, Badger & Will.

Also, search 'LEGO Stormtrooper' into Flickr, then search 'LEGO British'. You get 7,536 results and 1,793 results, respectively. Most of the latter search is WWII troopers, the Sterling was made 8 years after the end of the war. My point is the SW version would be much more popular. Stormtroopers are probably the most popular LEGO figure (Along with clone troopers), and I'm sure the E-11 would be the most popular BA gun.
Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
Tac mind throwing up a poll on here for Badger, while people give feedback he can also look at some numbers though they would be skewed on a Star Wars site.
Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
I, being a WWIItard, for once I actually find the Star Wars E-11 better. The Sterling doesn't look all to fantastic, and we've had plenty of WWII weapons, I feel that Star Wars should get it's time to shine. That is why my vote goes to the E-11.

I appreciate the thought, but a poll really isn't necessary. The great feedback everyone has posted thus far has definitely been more than hopeful, and a poll wouldn't be nearly as informative as folks stating clearly what is about aspects of both designs they like and how they could be improved.Tac wrote:Done. I hope you don't mind Mr. Badger.
Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
I'd also like to add that if it would be made possible to insert the mag in both the left and right side of the weapon, it would not only be usable for Stormtroopers (with a scope + mag on left side), but also for Clone Troopers (no scope + mag on right side).

Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
I agree with DP, it would be much better if it could have a removable scope AND a Magazine which could be put on either side.
Re: Feedback on BrickArms Advanced Sterling SMG Requested!
I honestly prefer the original E-11 with scope, but it would be cool if Will also put the second version in his shop. Like DP said, we could use it as a stormtrooper blaster and a clone trooper blaster.
