"This is Papa Dragon"
After eight months of planning, buying, and building, the Dragon is finally done!
Measuring about 3 feet by 3 feet (rotors included) the Dragon is a beast. Using over 16,500 pieces and having cost more than I imagined.
As stated before, Mark Kelso and Dave Xandegar have been a huge help with building this.
For those of you who will be at BrickWorld 2011, you'll see it in person; and believe me, the pictures do not do it justice.
Since this has been such a massive investment in time and money, I will be taking a small break but should be building in a month or two.
Hope you all enjoy it!
EDIT:
This was nomintated for "Best Airship" at BW11. It unfortunately did not win.
You can also Veiw it on Flickr

:O that is huge man. I would have quit building that at day 1. I wish I could see it in person.

Wow that thing's huge. How much did you spend on the whole thing?
And does it have an interior?

Awesome, just awesome. I don't even have any idea who you are on the CABG. Never heard of you. So I went for about three minutes. But I agree with TD, it needs interior, it needs pilots, it needs troops, you could even do the big suit things. That would be even more awesome!

The cockpit has an interior (lights/details) but the main body does not. I am making plans to change that in the future though.
Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
Whoa, this is quite the Beast! I'd love to see some interior, and maybe some color. Nice job.

Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
Awesome! That's beast! IMO its a little too bulky, but this is still one of the best MOCs I've seen!
Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
Kinda boxy. And I'd change that white canopy if I were you.

Wow George! This thing is big and I mean VERY big! LOve how you made the Hover Engines, looks like you put some time onto this whole thing. This ship reminds me of the aircraft from Avatar the movie. Awesome job George! Keep up the excellent building
Also, why isn't this front paged!? I think this guy deserves to have his creation front paged

This is supposed to be the Dragon Gunship for Avatar. It just has some slight changes due to my personal take on the ship.

It is a bit boxy but it's very close to the proportions given in the movies.
Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
In pics this looked massive, but I didn't realize how massive it was until seeing at BW. Really great work, and instantly recognizable!

Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
That is just plain amazing ! It absolutely reminds me of the "Papa Dragon" gunship in Avatar. It would be cool though if you made some AMP suits because that ship is the one that dropped all those suits into combat. The shuttle from Avatar will be next? Just wondering . Also how much did the whole ship cost to build?

No I do not plan on making the other shuttle but the end battle scene is a big possability .
Rook wrote:So ummm is there a playable interior?
No the interior is just supports. The cockpit is playable with built in lights but thats it. I have future plans for the Dragon and some more interior is one of hte plans.

Yeah I realize that would be an even bigger project for you, because that shuttle makes the Scorpions and Samsons seem like flies . The end battle scene would be nice to see. You would probably have to make the Na'vi out of bricks because they are 9 foot tall on average. Again, nice work .

The Woody legs make a great Na'vi so I may just use those.

Yeah you could use Woody legs.

Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
Naw, to boxy. You should really make them out of bricks. Maybe consult Justin Pyne. He's great at mechs, and big creatures are the same thing actually. And maybe first some AMP's and those helicopters (Scorpions?). Can't wait to see those!
Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
Oh my.
That's one hell-of-a ship. May you compare it to a minifigure?

At the moment no. It is in the module moving mode right now but I may be taking it out in a month or two for a small builders get-together.

Yes I have plans for the Scorpions and flying creatures. And if all goes well, I will have the aerial battle at BW12
Re: "This is Papa Dragon"
Thanks for the update George. Looks like you've been on vacation for a few months!
