Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
Too bad for Sabarrus, I think his was at least as good as Eternal Dusk.....
Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
Ah shot down!
Well I see 2 MOCs that don’t belong in the final 8. But they will not make it to the final 4. Looks like my predictions will be right about the top 3, just not 4th place!

Darn, I didn't think you would get out voted by him, oh well. There is always next year.
Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
Cheaters! XD I just posted this on FBTB.
--------------------------
Ok I call bull ship. Two people built the ship that beat mine and the prior entries. And one of was FBTB staff. That means basically two accounts could vote for "their" single entry, at each level which is flat out wrong in my opinion. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lights/6302650340/in/photosof-lights/
In my opinion that's about the same as having multiple accounts.

Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
Hey guys, glad to be on the site!
Yeah im not sure if they are cheating per say but if chief's ship does get first place, people are probably going to think they cheated anyways, which sucks cause I'm pretty sure they are being honest. I personally don't like the idea of a FBTB staff member joining one of their contests but oh well.
That being said I was surprised Rook lost that round, I thought the Eternal Dusk was certainly among the top ships...

That's more of a jest than anything. (I hate how internet misses tone. :grrr: ) I think getting someone else to help build a contest entry is a little lame personally. If you can't do it on your own merit than it's an empty win. Thus yes I did call the person that submitted it a cheater. It would be like me hiring one Lego designers to build a contest entry for me.
But yeah my whole point seemed to have missed by Ace. My point is it looks bad in my opinion. And as staff of a forum we shouldn't be in contests. I have in the past here when the prizes are small and among a small group of friends but a forum with almost a 100 contestants and over $1000 worth of prizes, I would hope that if the roles were reversed I wouldn't be entering a contest or even lending a hand to friend for the fear of possible accusations of miss conducted. But seems that was missed and rather focusing on fixing the issues in future contests the majority seemed to be focused on the fact that generally I sound like an a$$hole until you meet me in person. There are about a dozen AFOLs that have met me and hopefully can attest to that.

I don't know the specifics of how much their collaboration - but it does bring up an interesting question - how much outside input does it take before something goes from 'your' moc to collaborative moc?
Like if I build an first pass/wip of something - share and ask for feedback - is that collaborating?
if someone gives very specific feedback like - oh you should replace this piece with that - is that collaborating?
or does there need to be some sort of physical building involved?

Err.... DarthPlur is super awesome....
- Spoiler:
- I'll admit that Rook is pretty non-a$$holey in real life... though DarthPlur really is super duper awesome.
Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
Well Solo said it perfectly. And that was my opinion as well. In a contest where TLG is supplying prizes to the tune of about $1000 CAD, forum staff should not be in the contest. After reviewing that, I know I've been on contests here regularly but they've always been for small $5-20 prizes. Nothing worth possible accusations of miss conduct, in my opinion. And with a strong majority of those prizes over the past 4 years being supplied from my own pocket. But I think from here on out, I won't be competing in contests here for that very reason, even if one of the other ADMIN are hosting. As a matter of fact based on this I don't believe any of the ADMIN should compete in a contest here unless there is a separate category for them or if the contest host specifically states they want the ADMIN in the contest an even then I'd personally be hesitant. Fortunately we’re a small community. With only about 200 Guildies and about 20-40 of us being active on a weekly basis. Which is very different than the larger forums out there.
Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
I don't see why you'd do that. I mean, sometimes a contest can really help you if you have a "I-want-to-build-but-don't-know-what-to-build" situation. I can see not wanting people to think you're cheating but I highly doubt anyone here would think that of an ADMIN. 'Specially you..
Re: FBTB Contest MOC MADNESS II
Hey but it's not worth it. Accusations even when unfounded can be pretty serious. FBTB has given me formal warning to kill the chatter. I see Onions has posted that those prizes are in fact from their earnings from advertising on the site. So in that case they can do whatever they want, since it's their money. On that note if a contest host wants MODs and/or ADMIN in a contest they should specify from now on. Also asking for feedback on MOCs to use in contest is perfectly acceptable as long members don't do any physical building of another members entry and/or provide them with step by step instructions to build a model.
