Need help for Decal Application on Clone Helmet
Hello everyone, this is my first time posting or being here on CABG. I found this website from clonearmycustoms.com and I've been inspired to make my own clone! Lately I have been trying to learn how to use waterslide decals to make special clones for a film, and the thing that I am having trouble with is putting decals on a helmet. I've used brasso to get rid of all the printing on a clone, and I have my helmet decal scaled.
I print the decal on clear decal paper. I then use clear sealant gloss to prevent the decal from rubbing off. I wait 30 minutes for it to dry. I then cut it out and let it sit in water for 15-45 seconds. I put the decal on the helmet, using q-tips to get any bubbles out and the ink rubs out here. I sprayed it correctly, etc. Any specific tips or stuff to watch out for? I can do torsos, arms, and legs perfectly fine, just not the helmet.
Also, when I put the decal on the clone helmet, I get rid of the wrinkles and every time I do that the print rubs off. I'm not pushing the print roughly either. Help?
Warning: Somewhat picture heavy
I don't want to ruin these helmets before I get the basics learned right.
This is the helmet I am attempting to put the decal on. Can someone help me with this? With much thanks from a newbie!

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Speaking as a fellow customizer, you aren't giving the decals quite enough time to dry after you print them. I actually wait two hours, also more than one coat is recommended. Decals are tough to put on helmets, yes, but I tend to use my fingers and or tweezers. Sometimes Q-tips can dry out the decals before they wrap properly over the element you want to put them on. I think the problem you may be having is touching the decals too much, by doing this they become far less flexible.
I hope this helps!

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Alright, I will try this when I refill my black ink cartridges! I watched Legoboy12346578's tutorial and he never said anything about waiting 2 hours after you print it. I sure have a lot to learn. Thank you for the suggestion and advice!

This thread may explain the process more clearly.

I did looked at that forum post, but it didn't explain too much about it.Justin Pyne wrote:This thread may explain the process more clearly.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
I haven't applied WS decals before but.. with you ink problem I'd suggest you'd dry your hands, and after you have applied the decal to the helmet, take out the wrinkles w/ your finger.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
Welcome to CABG! I've never tried WSD application before, so I can't help you out there, but I'm sure you'll get it eventually.

PS: That's because he's an idiot. He uses other peoples’ materials and tries to pass them off as his own because he beheld it, and changed a brick or some other minor detail. Similar to saying I wrote The Declaration of Independence because I have a copy with my signature on it.
PPS: Please read the forum's rules and regulation about topics for the New Members Area. Also you may have noticed an entire section of this forum is about Customizing and Building Techniques. USE IT.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
In order to follow the rules of you can't post a reply to a post that is older than two weeks, I can't reply to anything related to waterslide decals (because most topics are already older than two weeks...). I also cannot make a new forum topic in that forum topic because I am new here. But yes I will try to find some way.Rook wrote:Borgarath wrote:Alright, I will try this when I refill my black ink cartridges! I love people trying to quote what I wrote. But never the less it says, “new and important information”. If you have a new question that hasn't been answered in an old tutorial, by all means bump it and ask it. The New Members threads are just for introductions.

Rules
I've noticed that some rules are no longer followed such as, "The 5 Words Per Sentence Rule." Can Somebody give me a list of which rules are no longer in place?
Re: New Member Questions Thread
Ah easy. The constitution is up to date. All rules changes/amendments are voted on by the staff and are thereafter changed on the forum's constitution. And Amendments are always posted as front page news for several weeks. If you find a discrepancy please bring it to the attention of a MOD or ADMIN.

If you'd read the rules you'd know the answer.

Re: New Member Questions Thread
I had a look at your stream, 90% of your stuff was custom clones. The 10% that was build weren't very good. Not to be rude. I suggest building a small 16x16. Then when you finish it, grab a sheet/blanket and photograph the build again. Then we can give you some feedback. Use our feedback to improve the build then repeat until your done. You need 3 builds to get in and the surest way of getting in is to get the people who already got in to critique your MOCs.
Once again I'm trying to help, not sound rude/insulting/mean.

Hey, I was wondering, how are you meant to post Flickr photos here (without being a member)? I've tried posting it in the specified CABGOIII thread, but to no avail. Link here to the image needed.
Oh, and sorry for the double post/

its fine that's pretty much what it was at the start and what would be a good background color for photography? (noob question)

Re: New Member Questions Thread
Actually. Not really a Noob question. Some cool photo backgrounds can be boring white, lime green, black, grey, blue, really any SOLID color. Probably no too bright like yellow, but it really depends on what you like. I had white, but I now have a blue and grey and all look fine.
Re: New Member Questions Thread
I like how you said, "Some cool photo backgrounds can be boring white,......" XD
