"Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Angles of Light
The last of the Darth PLUR Series 1, has begun. In January 2011 when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer I switched from a bley and dark red series I was doing for my “Rook” character to brighter happier series, white and various types of trans. This new series included models like the “Rook” series, and matched most of the models type for type. If you remember I built the “The Rook’s Rook” fortress as the final piece. So it has begun, Darth PULR’s fortress. I’m not going to rush through this one. I have a couple more models to shred and couple of contests, hopefully MOC Madness III, to enter. Never the less the frame work started on 08.08.12. My target date once again is my birthday in April 2013 (about 8 months). Several BrickLink and PaB orders have been made and I’ll be needing one more probably in the next month or two. Nothing interesting to view yet, just a technics box, on top of another box, on top of another box. Did I meantion I'm hoping it will at least be Brickfete next year.
I see the beauty of Heaven with "angles" (yes not angels, but then you never know) of light streaming from it. With the wrath and brimstone that guards such a sanctuary. This isn’t intended to blasphemous, just beautiful and extremely deadly, like Darth PLUR.
Wish me luck as sent out on my largest building project to date. And hopefully you’ll find inspiration in the exchange creativity as the model on folds and comes to… light.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
This, as most of your huge WIPs do, sounds epic. Best wishes to your wife.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
That's the plan. I'm hoping for it to the centre piece for ToroLUG this next Con season. If nothing else it'll at least be the center piece for my MOCs.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
I can't wait. I'd really love to see this in person, but I know I'll never make it to Brickfete.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Frame version 1 aborted! I'm stuck in limbo waiting on a BrickLink order but in the mean time I'm going to see if I can solve one of my other major problems.
I've built elevators before. (See Utapau Play Set) And I have cool one that I have built currently but I'm not going to use due to not enough smoothness in operation. So I'll get pictures up of the aborted frame and the aborted elevator this week.
The biggest problem with the "main" frame, , was that it was too "Empire State" and not enough Sci-Fi Funk. That and even with it being built in 3 sections, the sections weren’t small enough to pack in Rubbermaids, which is going to be the most important part of the build, if it's going to travel at all. But at 6'2" it is the tallest thing I've ever built. Sadly only a technics frame. So I've sketched a few alternate ideas and I'll see what this weekend brings for building time.
EDIT: Updated

Wow, it seems like you jsut finished the Age of Light and now you are starting this...
Is there going to be the community stuff like there was last time?

Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Yep for sure. I just haven't posted anything because of CABGOIII.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
A look at the aborted MainFrame 1.0.
Yep that's a blowgun on the wall don't get distracted now.
Looking up through the planned elevator shaft.
Classic view.

My gosh, Dat is big.
That is also I nice sized colection.. How long did it take you to sort it?

Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
That's only the last three columns. Looking at the short end of the room.
It's been sorted since I was a little kid and I just keep adding and resorting into smaller bins. For example I sorted my black and grey into 2 small 1'x1'x2' bins and shoe boxes for the other colors and all the trans in one shoe box. Then over time it became larger and colors were added by Lego. So grey would have become: Technics, plates, bricks, & other.
Then it would have become light grey and dark grey. Then Technics beams, technics studded pieces, non studded technics pieces, misc molded technics, 1x plates, 2x plates +4x plates, angled plates, bricks, curved and angled bricks (dark brownish grey), curved and angled bricks (dark blue-ish grey), curved and angled bricks (light grey), wall pieces and other BURPS, bricks with texture or studs on the sides, printed and decaled elements, and finally "other". And that's just the grays. So how long did it take? Only about 30 years. XD But for sort a collection this size I'm guessing one person from scratch maybe two weeks for 4-6 hours a day. When I shredded and sorted may last mega MOC the total process about 15 hours; 8-9 shredding and 5-6 sorting.
The MainFrame 2.0 is much more complex and should be much more interesting to look at. You can see the centre is just simple, large but simple, technics boxes.

That's just amazing, Rook! I hope you can keep a beast like that detailed!

Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
I'm going to try. It's going to be mainly white but I'm going to add gray and bley to exterior portions to give it a bit of a transformers kind of effect. See how Bubblebee is "yellow" but when you look at him see details that aren't yellow. Same thing.

Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
It's technics frame. And I'm not using it because it's too simple.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
As suspected, other projects have greatly slowed the work on this one. So I'm still on traget for finishing by late April 2013.
Teaser: Testing first & second series of Power Functions.
Elevator works, check.
Primary external lighting, check.

Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Oh mah gosh, that still looks epic even though it is just a framework.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
The frame work at the top is the simple version. I rebulit it completely to give it the complexity and depth worth of my first "Lego" convention MOC. Brickfete 2013!
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
OH man... I wish I could go to see this in person......
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Same. I love Rook's use of Power Functions on every MOC.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Rook, we require that you post videos of your Power Functions MOCs on a YouTube channel. Seriously.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
I'll be sharing more with this MOC soon. I had 4 album covers and a FBTB contest entry that had to be done so everything with this was on hold for a bit.
Re: "Angles" of Light [Legends of the Fall WIP Project]
Inspired!
So got some inspiration on a new design for my elevator in my big WIP project. And now this is the old one. New is much lighter but slower. So I may gear it up a bit, but I'm not worried about that for now.

I would like to see your prototyped design. I would like to build a elevator someday, but stability and strength are questionable.

This. I've tried, and failed....
