Mark 5 Droid Gunship
This is just a little re-do of the general grevious fighter. I made it into something much cooler: A Droid Gunship! Non-cannon, of course.
The Mark-5 Droid Gunship, nicknamed the 'Grey Gunship' or 'Sweeper' by clone troopers, was designed by the CIS to combat Republic Infantry and medium ground vehicles. It is piloted by a single pilot droid, and is heavily armed. It boasts eight guided rockets, two mortar launchers, two light repeating cannon, three laser cannons, two heavy turrets, and two rocket launchers.
An underside picture of the 'wing' mounted weopons:
The heavy gun turrets are attached to the main repulsor engines. In the back you can see the mortar launchers in grey. Underside view:
You can view the whole gallery here.

Very nice! What pieces, besides the one in the GG Fighter set have you used? I would also really love to have instructions! This would be very nice to fight my clone forces, so please, please make instructions!

I agree, but I think it looks a bit to bulky and to big for one droid.

Why that? I think it's just a right size! It's small actually, when you look at the Invisible hand. How many droids pilot it? 10 or so? That means they all have 1 tenth of the ship to pilot, and I'm sure thats about 1000 times bigger than this one!
And on a second look (I was a bit in a hurry yesterday) it looks like a plane and a droid gunship at the same time. I really want instructions!

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
Cool, but I don't like the old time wing style reminds me of an older ship. Besides that I like it.

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
I would have changed the tail maybe. That is the only part that makes it look Terrain.
Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
You know what I don't understand, why have a droid inside a ship? why not just make ship fly itself, like why have a machine drive a machine?

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
In the case of the Droid Tank, they had a droid pilot it because it's AI was faulty, it was just too stupid, even for a droid.

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
Yes. And sometimes droids can make better desicions than...droids.
The pilot hooks up to the ship's computer and with a bigger brain from the power of the two of them they make better desicions.

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
That's pretty sweet! It reminds me of a Transformers minicon I got a looooooong time ago and still have. The long wings and the short cockpit and tail...
Anyway, I like the way the main cannons on either side go out and in; very intuitive! The mortars, also, along with the rest of the armaments! Great job!
*tells self: I gotta build me one 'a those... *

We can always reverse-engineer it, I'm getting rather good at that, I have successfully built almost all the vehicles and buildings from the Rock Raiders computer game!

Rock Raiders was a series of sets that acompanied a computer game that came out in the late 90's. It was about the Rock Raiders who got sucked through a black hole, and got their ship severely damaged(the L.M.S. Explorer). So they land on this planet to mine for power crystals to refuel their ship. They encounter dangers such as cave-ins, monsters, lava, and Slimey Slugs. Really a cool line!

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
Ah I remember those now. I wasn't building when that line was out. They have some of them on display in my local Lego store.
Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
COOL! It was a HUGE challenge building stuff from the game, luckily, I have a pretty broad knowledge of how LEGO elements fit together.

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
It's mostly big huge pieces. Just take your GG fighter apart, put it together like you see it, and then add on a few pieces where they're needed.

Then could you perhaps give me a list of the extra pieces needed?

Re: Mark 5 Droid Gunship
Taking a second look at it, it does remind me a lot of a German aircraft from WWII, th look and the color kinda make me think of that.

I really like the build! It looks good. The cannons are a really nice edition. It just looks a bit old fashion...oh well, it's still great.
