By using four of those larger curved bricks with three studs on top. They would make a nice circle. I have one in my collection though I don't know from whence it came but I'll post a pic just to show you that I'm right Mr. freakin' Skirata.

I understand why it couldn't be larger because you didn't have enough pieces. It looks good but if anything you could of added some detail.

I've always wondered what is at the bottom of the pit.

Probably just ground, but yeah, in the movie it is much deeper.
