Customized Republic Gunship

Hi my name is Iceman792 and I have recently been accepted into the guild; this is my first post and I would love to share it with you. I first used this creation as introductory means in the new members’ area and collateral on my application and thought it would be advantageous to finally list it now that I’m legit. This gunship which I affectionately call Frostbite by the way was my first unified successful attempt at a major set customization and overhaul. I started my endeavors by first erasing any trace of green red and tan from the model and replaced them with comparable blue bricks that could be generated off LDD. The second area I turned my attention to was the creation of the bubble and wing turrets. Before I go any further about the creation let me provide a disclaimer for all you authenticity sticklers out there. Yes, there should not be pilots in the wing turrets I know and yes there should not be two pairs of doors on a gunship with bubble turrets (I will complain if I’m hassled about this). Unfortunately I regress tangentially, back to the turrets. They were created through a bricklink order of cockpit domes and cost me a substantial amount but I have not regretted their addition once. There design was a stab at a simplistic way to address geometry that simply did not line up. In the end the decision was made to use the clamp tension of the 2 sides to secure the laser projector rather than leaving an open seam throughout the turrets. Nextly I looked for a smart way to address a deploy net while still leaving the cabin as roomy as possible. I studied some specs. and was elated when I thought of simply attaching a Lego soccer net to the ceiling. To my surprise troopers even had a little bit of extra head room. I knew a gunship truly wasn’t customized without a few little personal touches so I added a snowflake insignia on both wings to hint at the icy theme and added a pair of customized hull art with a famous Texas saying accompanying favorite StarWars beasts. The final shots I have included showcase the features I have discussed and shows how she handles a full accompaniment of clones. I have also proudly displayed her proudly beside fellow LAATs. The main ploy of this shot however is to make others with fewer gunships writhe with envy (WA Ha Ha)! Overall I’m pleased with the way my baby came out; I’ve always admired LAAT customizations and I think mine is at a level to represent the tradition proudly.

Brilliant job on both of the nose decals, the coloring job is also stupendous. Great work

Gunship looks good, though, despite being more of a mod than a MOC.

Could you tell me how to make the bubble turrets?
I am working on an EP2 gunship and that is the last thing i need.

Yes its styling might be a future template to the look of my legion. It will be included in its armory.

Nice job again with the ship Ice. I also like the netting you added to the interior top. That's a detail in the ships that most people miss.

The bubble turrets are very cool, and make it that much more accurate. However, I don't really like the trans-dark blue pieces you used; I imagine trans-light blue might look better.

Like I said on mocpages I love the nose art. I would like to see more done structurally (i.e. improve the wings and rocket tubes).

Whew, that was a lot to read! I think the idea for the emblem on the wing was a good one, but are those your own decals? Also, your clones seem a bit squished.

Forget to mention you might want to add paragraphs or at least split up long posts as seen above Ice. It makes it easier for us to read, and is just common courtesy. I'm all for in-depth descriptions!

As CK said, the custom gunship decals are spectacular, and you gave this gunship extreme detail. Also, putting a net in the troop bay was a great idea, thus I look forward to some of your later creations.

Wow dude...!! I really like how you put the little handles inside the Gunship like in the movies and I like how you added the little ball cockpit thing like in Episode 2 to the Blue one.

That is one good MOC, keep it up. You have and impressive colection of gunships, and how did you make the blue gunship, did you modify a regular gunship? By the way, can you please tell me how to make the side bubble turrets, they look awesome. Truly, you did make me seethe with envy, but me and my only LAAT (the new one) will be awesome too. I plan on probably painting some of the blocks green, or probably all red, such as the "Red Devils".
