PeaceKeeper Podracer
While pondering what to make for the military podracer gbuild, I noticed the engines were similar to missiles. So for my militarized podracer, I based the engines off an ICBM. Here's another, clearer picture.
There are two methods of attack: first the pilot guides the pod to the target, discharges the ordnance in the nose, and turns back to refuel and rearm, second the pilot can go kamikaze and steer the pod into the target. Use with discretion
Building this was quite difficult because the entire thing is round. The diameter of the engines is 5 studs, so I couldn't use any prefabricated pieces. The nose/ordinance, the black ring behind it, the red and white stripes(along with the black tiled areas behind them), and the studded area all use different techniques. The especially hard part was they all had to have the same diameter of 5 studs.
In the second reference image you can see the gray spots are completely outlined in black. I really wanted to get that detail so I used 1x1 round plates, which allowed me to squeeze black bars between the rows of plates, and the rubber bands served the double purpose of holding the bars in while creating the perpendicular lines I wanted.
There are some additional images of the exhaust nozzle, and the pod itself.

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Well, there goes my chance. That is, if I ever get around to building one.
Great work.
Great work.
Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Nice one. There goes my chance when I become a GMem.

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
This is a military pod racer contest. So it needs weapons.
Otherwise, this pod racer looks great! I am not real sure about the pod.

Did you read the description? The engines ARE the weapons.
Nice work. If possible I'd love a break up of those engines, seeing as you mention them all being built differently. The techniques would be really helpful, I'm always trying to learn new stuff

I couldn't have said it better! Kamikaze Pod FT Guild Win!Rook wrote:Kamikaze Pod Racer! Worst weapon ever (if you're the enemy)! Nice details on the pods.
The engines are soooo... *30 characters later*... ooo awesome!
Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
LB it IS the weapon. Read the description.
This is a great entry. Looks super hot!

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Wow awesome! It's a really pity the fuel connection thing wasn't made of LEGO.
Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
My bad. I guess I did not read the discription.
That is one great pod racer. I will be sure to stay behind yours at all times. :d'oh:

Glad you all like it.
I wanted to get a picture of the inside, but I forgot to take one yesterday. I will eventually get some pictures of the guts.
Don't worry you aren't missing much.Troopa Daisy wrote:It's a really pity the fuel connection thing wasn't made of LEGO.

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Amazing. At first glance it looks as if the cockpit wouldn't match, but after a while it grows on you.

See, its things like this that start wars. I am bowled over by this design Blackninjatom and I think yours is the best I've seen. Nice work!

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Actually in keeping with the ICBM theme I based the pod design off of this. So it should fit exactly.Alpha Beta wrote:Amazing. At first glance it looks as if the cockpit wouldn't match, but after a while it grows on you.

I gotta say this to you, that's a really good podracer!

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
You based the pod design off a transporter? OMG
No, it really looks friggin' good, I would be happy if yu could make a view inside them to see how you made the connections.

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Sorry, I almost forgot about that. I'll see if I can get some cutaway pictures up this week.
Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
I would have never thought of using nuclear missiles as podracer engines... those would make crashes fierier than NASCAR...

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Ok, I finally got around to getting a picture of the innards.
Here you go, and sorry it took so long.

Re: PeaceKeeper Podracer
Wow, that's a really good idea. Myself, I would never figure out that tiles fit on the chain parts. :-(
Well, thanks for the image, and I really like the podracer.
