CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
CABGO III!
Ok well it is officially after 12am on May 1st, 2012 in some parts of the world. DarthPineapple and I have been hammering out the details for a few days and we’re still hoping on a few more prizes but here it is!
SO READ THIS COMPLETELY, THEN READ IT AGAIN!
Original Announcement Regarding Requests for Prizes:
Good morning, afternoon, evening, & night:
Many of you know that I’m an ADMIN over on theCABG.net . Every time that there’s an Olympics the CABG holds their own MOC Olympics or CABGO. This is our third time running this and we’re looking for prize sponsors. We’re not looking for much. The idea is several people/businesses throw in several small things that in the end we can compile some great prizes packs. We have 3 categories of competition. If you choose to donate prizes you can specify which prize pool category you wish to donate to.
We have Guild Members vs. New Members (Non-Guild Members) and they have to build 2 MOCs to enter. This competition category will be referred to as Biathlon Category (2 MOCs).
We have Guild Members vs. Moderators and they have to build 3 MOCs to enter. This competition category will be referred to as Triathlon Category (3 MOCs = first 2 MOCs, plus another).
We have Guild Members vs. Moderators vs. ADMIN and they have to build 5 MOCs to enter. This competition category will be referred to as Pentathlon Category (5 MOCs = first 3 MOCs, plus 2 more).
I personally am donating prizes (full PaB Cups) to the Biathlon & Triathlon levels because I will not be competing in those categories. I’d like the largest prize pool to go towards the Biathlon Category, then the Triathlon Category, and finally the least amount of prizes in the Pentathlon Category since this will have the fewest amount of competitors in it probably because contestants will have to build 5 MOCs in the 3 month time period.
If you wish you can send a lump package to me and I can forward it to the winners. Or if you prefer I can have the winners contact you directly (or I could contact you with their mailing info). Note the voting won’t be until the end of the summer since the contest runs from June 1 to August 31. However the official announcement is coming May 1st. If you interested/able to donate prizes please reply by then and include a list, link, and/or image (image preferred) regarding the prizes you are donating.
Thanks again for everything that you do in the Community, ADMIN ROOK

Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
I have two questions. May we ask questions here? And can we include more than 1 picture of our MOC if it only requires 1?
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Read rule 6. It contradicts all the gallery optional statements above.

Ah yes excellent this why I post with plenty of time for edits. This was a partial copy and paste from a previous contest.
Clarification on Link to Gallery
All submissions require a link to your photo gallery.
Don't have one? It's free sign up for Flickr.com with a Yahoo email account (which is also free) is recommend. Or use Photobucket, BrickShelf, or one of the other thousands of image hosting sites.
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Update from Dutch. Here's a look at one the prizes! I'll assign this one to the Biathlon prizes for now. (Prize includes round stand and gun.)
Steadibrick from Flickr, and fellow member of ToroLUG, has offered more to the prize pools!

I've got a Snowtrooper Battle Pack (8084) and Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter (8093), both new in box. You are welcome to them for CABGO III.
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
This is just getting better and better.... Can we start building now? Or do we have to wait?
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Just thought of this, but does the theme have to be an official Lego theme for category 1? Or can it be fan made? And for the historical build, does it have to be true history? Or can it be Fiction-y, e.i. Captain America took place during WWII (I am pretty sure), but we all know he doesn't and didn't exist.
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Lego Theme and Historical.
Note: IT DOES NOT SAY "HISTORICAL FICTION NOR FANDOM BASED THEME!
Stop trying to add stuff that's not there. This contest is suppose to push you/us to build beyond your/our comfort zones. Thus making you/us better builders. Yet the first 2 MOCs are designed to be easy so that builders of all skill levels can compete.

K, and on other things. Do the characters have to be official? For example I don't like the way some of the official characters looks, can I use a custom?
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
The idea is to make the playing field even. Everyone should have access to two minifigures from the same theme. Everyone may not have access to custom figs. Unless rook says otherwise I think it would be safe to say official figures only.

Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Halen's got it.
MOCs 1 & 2 are set up to even the playing field between Guildies and Non-Guildies. We have some Guildies that would crush everyone with custom minifigures in MOCs 1 & 2 because the builds are designed to simpler.
However you'll notice MOCs 3&5 are wide open for the custom minifigure field. This where custom minifigures might give that builder that extra edge needed to crush some of the seasoned MODs and then ADMIN.
However you bring up a good point.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use all parts as depicted on BrickSet Figure Image. All other accessories are optional.

Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Well there goes my idea.
So for #1 I presume we can't have figs in the background then?

Yes it does imply "only" 2 in the wording.
Edited to read "ONLY 2".
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
OH SNAP THAT IS GOING TO BE INTENSE
I can say that I'm excited for the third CABG Olympics. The prizes available seem very nice and with so much to build over the summer this ought to keep a lot of people busy.

Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Yeah I've already started shredding some current MOCs to free up the bricks. I'm going to try to see if I can actually have all 5 in one final image rather than my usual build, shoot, and shred cycle.
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Uh oh, LR is in on this one. This just got a lot hrader...... And almost all my bricks are tied up.... Good thing there is BL. :p
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
God I'm in time.
Note: guys really you don't need bricklink to make something to win the contest. Though it does help. :p You just have to expand your ideas.

Very much true. Also I don't know where, but Rook once said something like this- "I officially became a Builder when I took my collection for parts." This is tempting yet I think of excuses not to. If you need parts, thats a way to do some. Become a true BUILDER.
@LazerBlade might wanna check "thought"
Re: CABGO III Contest Announcement & Discussion
Check what? What ever it is did not get across to me.
