Guild Build: 2 Clone Air Speeder

Title/Name: Modified Coruscant open topped Cumulus Cruiser

Description: (Air Speeder seen busting though some low cloud cover.)

Back Story:
An evolution begins. The forefather of the Snow Speeder this air speeder was modified to have the second person sit backwards and a large gun was mounted to the back. This design became more refined and specialized during the Clone Wars until finally we see Luke Skywalker use what is referred to as a Snow Speeder in Battle of Hoth.

Actually, Cumulus is the name of a cloud. (At least in german)

I quite like it, the sleekness, and the tiny little greebles. Question ,where did you get the clear baseplate?

Sweet angles and curves you've got there Rooky! I like the slanted sides as well as the curved bricks on the front and back of the craft. I'm not really seeing the evolution from this to a snowspeeder though, but I like the rear gunner nonetheless. The clouds are superb and you really hid those clear plates well. The posing of the craft was nice too. Smile

Awesome shape on the speeder! Maybe if you had put wings than it would resemble a Snowspeeder more?

That doesn't look very practical for any military use:
-The driver and gunner are exposed
-because the gun is on back and there are no forward firing armaments, the vehicle is useless in most combat scenarios
-For something that was a modified air taxi, there is no room for more than one passenger, meaning it can't even be used for personnel transport
-Doesn't have a use that isn't better suited for a gunship or speeder
Furthermore:
-Ugly coloring (white, or light grey with some dark bley would work better)
-Without the clones, it is unrecognizable as a Republic vehicle (at the very least put the insignia somewhere)
-It doesn't look the least bit aerodynamic

In all honesty, I am finding trouble finding one redeeming quality about it.

Wow thanks. I know I suck compared to you but you should work on improving your people skills to equal your building skills. Wink “Build, Inspire, & Befriend” and what not. Embarassed

That doesn't look very practical for any military use:
-The driver and gunner are exposed

So was the driver for many other ships. Would you like a list?

-because the gun is on back and there are no forward firing armaments, the vehicle is useless in most combat scenarios

Agreed, you notice a talked about that in GBuild thread.

-For something that was a modified air taxi, there is no room for more than one passenger, meaning it can't even be used for personnel transport

Never said it was a taxi. Fail.

-Doesn't have a use that isn't better suited for a gunship or speeder

Yep. Emergency modification of Civilian speeder wouldn't.

Furthermore:
-Ugly coloring (white, or light grey with some dark bley would work better)

Ok you're in the middle of a battle you get shot down. You grab a some pare parts to civilian speeder to get back into the battle. "Oh wait let's stop and paint it." Wow this thing looks'oh:

-Without the clones, it is unrecognizable as a Republic vehicle (at the very least put the insignia somewhere)

Humm. Yeah. Not Republic.

-It doesn't look the least bit aerodynamic

I agree.

In all honesty, I am finding trouble finding one redeeming quality about it.

Must have not been good enough, I with continue try to be better.

Post by Chuck Sun May 10, 2009 9:56 pm

Okay, I may have been a bit hasty in my previous post. I think it would work as a regular air speeder, as opposed to a military vehicle. The shape isn't terrible; however, it could use some work on the sides. I also think that the engine could use some work; I suggest you make large slits as engines. If you want to keep the color and military motif, I suggest you change it to a CIS vehicle. I hope this helps a little more Wink

I'm with Chuck. Though it's a really neat MOC, it doesn't resemble the sleek military speeder profile that it probably should. Smile

People say it's flawless, (cough) we can't see any flaws that might be hiding on the bottom. Razz Hah! Just joking, this is very good. But the only similarity to the snowspeeder is the back gun. It has a long way to go before it becomes the snowspeeder.

1. for such a big vehicle, they should have more protection.

2. viewers shouldn't have to search around the forum to explain akward armament placement

3. fair enough

4. You never mentioned it was an emergency modification; I assumed it was an actual military vehicle based off of a civilian vehicle

5. See #4

6. See #4 and #5
