Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
I would reccoment Paint.net instead of GIMP. It really stinks originally, but look in Help>Plugins, there are many awesome, safe, and user-frendly plugins made by fans. You will need some basic knowledge of the Windows file system to install the .dlls, but you can learn to do that on the same fourm as the plugins.

Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
Well Paint.net is easier to use, but GIMP is a much more versatile program, but at the expense of a higher learning curve..
But, Photoshop>all (in terms of what you can do with it, not bang for the buck).
Boy is it hard to learn.

PDN can kick GIMP's tail with plugins.

Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
I Honestly feel there both awesome programs and work pretty good together. I've Used PDN to create the explosion in the background and GIMP and google images to add in the ships.

Indeed, I often use more than one editing program to create graphics and such. PDN is good for coming up with designs and stuff from stratch, I think, and Photoshop (And I assume GIMP) is better for cropping and arranging the final product with finishing touches.

Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
Hey, if you order GIMP from the site it's free isn't it? Well I was wondering about shipping prices. How much are they?

It's a download; shipping isn't needed.Captain Cobra wrote:Hey, if you order GIMP from the site it's free isn't it? Well I was wondering about shipping prices. How much are they?

No, theres a place where you can buy it on a CD for free, but I found the ship price for it. So ignore my first post.

Why exactly would you want that if you could download it for free?Captain Cobra wrote:No, theres a place where you can buy it on a CD for free, but I found the ship price for it. So ignore my first post.

Vista! OMG run for your lives. Sorry I have no idea. Still using XP. Anybody got answer for him other then... GOOGLE IT!
Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
I have googled it, and it dosn't work. When I think I have it, it says, "You must be a member of the somthing somthing before installing this program". And none of my XP computers have internet. So I have to get it for my Vista.Rook wrote:Vista! OMG run for your lives. Sorry I have no idea. Still using XP. Anybody got answer for him other then... GOOGLE IT!

Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
No, I havn't tried that. Just GIMP.org
(Edit) I tried Download.com but it dosn't work either. After it downloads it says, "You must be logged in as an administrator or member of the Power User Groups before installing this program". Did anyone else have this problem? It did exactly the same on GIMP.org.

Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
Since I'm rather hopeless with transparency in GIMP could anyone make the background transparent?

Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
Sorry Darman, can't help you, haven't used GIMP in a while. But I did this.
Re: GIMP/Photoshop Thread
How's this, Darman? I used Photoshop, though I doubt it really matters.

Thank's so much for the help Sith.
Edit: Well using that transparent walker picture and some GIMP I have created this. Meh not the best but I think it will pass.

1. Why didn't you use PDN? You know how to make transparency there. 'oh:
2. I don't get the poster, there's energy everywhere and some text, with no apparent source of the energy.

I wouldn't have said anything if it were just the galaxies, but it looks like the walker is getting blown up.
